Never quite understood the Duster. If you absolutely must own new for as little as possible, then I suppose they make sense. When I was looking, I felt I was spoilt for choice with all the used Japanese and Korean SUVs out there. Didn't rate the interior of the Duster at all.

Suprised at how grown-up it looks now though.

I had one new in 2021. Faultless in 3 years of ownership.

I see what you are saying re price and 2nd hand equivalents but mine was £10,500 new and I sold it for £9,300.

3 years and 18,000 miles for £1,200. Unbelievable really.

But I certainly wouldn't pay nearly £20k for one now, without looking at alternatives.

When this new Duster was announced, I'd never been in a Dacia. Since then, thanks to Avis car hire, I've sampled a few. Humble Sanderos, a Sandero Stepway and finally a Duster (the outgoing model, obviously). All were quite good. The Sanderos have been the base Essential model; so basic that they don't have a media screen. Instead it presented you with an upper dashboard clamp to secure your phone in place.
I can see what people say about the simple heater controls - they're just great. The cabins are hard-wearing enough, and it's the kind of car you can simply use - rather than be precious about.
The Stepway was better equipped - but more of less identical to the Sandero, but the pick of the 3 was the Duster. It was a diesel, not that I could really tell. It was roomy, comfortable, clatter-free, peppy, yet really economical. It really made me keen to see the new Duster when it comes out. I won't buy one any time soon - I'm not looking to change. But if I were in the market, I certainly wouldn't rule one out.

Are you comparing the right things?

The Duster starts from c£17k and the Cashcow from c £29k. Even a Hyundai Kona is c.£25k.

Just passed 5000 miles (in 6 weeks eek) in my outgoing 4x4 1.5 diesel. It's been an absolute fantastic run around for me so far. Would recommend the current/outgoing model.

My wife has a 22 Duster prestige 150 auto which she bought new at £20k.She prefers it to her 20 plate Tiguan before and her 18 plate RAV4 before that and i can see why she likes it and as she uses it as a workhorse isn't precious over it at all.

Average mpg is 52.8 and not being precious it is ideal for our country lanes and tracks where tree rash is a downside of country living.
Old handbrake and dash mounted hvac controls are important for her too.

I like dials for the HVAC so buttons are a major downgrade, although atleast they're not on the screen yet like a Range Rover.

The recycling symbol displayed proudly on the outside of your brand new car, not sure about that either.

Also not keen to move to hybrid and auto, I wanted relative simplicity so no hybrid and manual.

It'll also be alteast 5-6k more expensive for the top trim with the best engine over my 2yo car.

I've gone full hybrid auto with my Honda. Best thing I've ever done - £35k pre reg for a top spec example - has physical buttons for HVAC and even a volume knob. I will however be straight to the dealer to see this new car when they get one, as the outgoing car with it's inflated price tag, really was not worth it.

I had a Phev for a while but recently went EV as well as a Ranger diesel but i see no point to a hybrid at all.

The 1.3tce is a great engine but i guess that has been shelved, looks like my wife will have to keep her Duster for now.

My Honda is full Hybrid, without the need to plug in - the petrol engine is the on board charger. I'm getting around 700 miles to £70 or so.

I was referring to the Duster hybrid being pointless and impressive as your Honda may be the Zr-V lacks the performance of my EV so for me a hybrid is pointless infact my Rav4 phev at over 300hp (ok heavier) was a stepping stone to full EV where i get charging for free.

If you still need a petrol engine to be a on board charger then it is pointless to me.

For those seriously interested the Dacia Spanish website has the configurator up and if necessary google translate can help with the options choices etc. Just had a look and I obviously misunderstood the UK press guff as the mild hybrid 4x4 is 6 speed manual only by looks of it so not the auto the wife is after. Shame… having her walk into a dealer with the kids to literally choose a colour and a few add ons was going to save me a lot of faff.
