Speed Camera Cut Down
Discussion

I think the biggest issue is the general perception they are revenue raisers first and foremost with improving safety a distant second.
I don't know if the information is already published but the justification for putting up a camera should be published, lack of information about why it is there is the biggest problem.
People should easily be able to see the reason for the camera being needed.
In Lancashire some areas have had cameras put up with the publicised justification "because there may be a collision issue" rather than there actually being data of one. i.e. they are now trying to forecast where issues may arise. Sets a precedent to put them up anywhere they want to (for political reasons perhaps even?).I don't know if the information is already published but the justification for putting up a camera should be published, lack of information about why it is there is the biggest problem.

Exactly this.
The public could go out on a night of mass civil disobedience and cut every single one down, and they would all get replaced.
Pointless.
So we all become good boys and girls and do exactly what we’re told? The public could go out on a night of mass civil disobedience and cut every single one down, and they would all get replaced.
Pointless.
Sounds like you’d be happier in China or North Korea.
I am merely suggesting the authorities would simply erect the cameras again, at our expense.
Look at how many ULEZ cameras have been vandalised, and what happened? They just get put back up again.
I’m no fan of speed cameras, but I’m a realist. If they all got cut down, they would simply be repaired and put back into service.
What wouldn’t happen is the government saying “ok ok, you win, we won’t put them back up again”

He's a police officer. Lot of them on here.
You couldn’t be more wrong. I’m one of those tax paying, middle class, law abiding types who doesn’t trust or like the police. There are lots of us these days.Mont Blanc said:

You can't vandalise things.
Tell me, is there a country you're aware of where vandalism is legal?

You can elect a different government.
You can indeed. Before the year is out no doubt millions of motorists will vote for a party that loves LTNs, congestion charges, environmental charges, school streets, 20 mph speed limits and all the other anti-car stuff. Then some of those motorists will inevitably come on here and moan about LTNs, congestion charges, environmental charges, school streets, 20 mph speed limits and all the other anti-car stuff. If you like driving then be careful what you wish for.siremoon said:

Maybe they've watched Tom Cruise in "The Minority Report". I wonder if we'll start receiving points on our license before we speed.

Not sure how any of those can affect ones enjoyment of driving.119 said:

Fascinating to see an entrenched opinion reacting against evidence.
My evidence is in line with official reports.
On the odd occasion when official reports "estimate" the effect of site-selection (RTM),
they find it might be the largest effect at camera sites (far greater than the camera effect).
And even then, when you look at the methods they use, they under-estimate the site-selection effect.
https://speedcamerareport.co.uk/official-reports/
All I did was completely remove the site-selection effect to produce the most accurate report possible.
Never been done before,
A world first!

Entrenched opinion? Dave, you're the one repeating the same thing, post after post after post. I'm just saying you've failed to convince me.My evidence is in line with official reports.

If you say you're a world first, there might be a reason why nobody else shares your opinion.

I have no desire nor am I so selfish to demand the right to drive wherever I want whenever I want.
I enjoy driving, but none of these have impacted my enjoyment whatsoever. Two things have impacted my enjoyment: 1. Us. There's far too many of us drivers. Together with the facts that UK policy restricts travel options to others, and our infrastructure being 50 years out if date, has resulted in the roads being absolutely swamped in traffic. Last week a 5 mile journey took us 45 mins, that's less than 7mph average. *None* of the things you mentioned caused that.
2. The law breaking of us drivers, of which I have played my part, particularly when I was young. fk me our lives would be easier if we just obeyed the rules.
