JSO Pensioners Fail to Break Glass
Discussion
One of them is an Anglican Priest who is convicted criminal and vandal who has only just finished a two year suspended sentence for criminal activity.
No doubt, being old and believing part of a religious sect gives freedom to commit crime and destroy property now in 2024.
Nope, it doesn't. Prosecution for criminal damage should follow.

There were a number of Magna Carta. A few remain, dotted around the country.
It is, though, the most over-rated document in English history. Firstly, it made no difference as John ignored it and, secondly, it is for the benefit of those who already enjoyed a lot of the benefits of being Norman. The indigenous population - us plebs - were ignored. In many ways, it reinforced the de facto slavery of serfdom. Shame it wasn't damaged.
But, of course, the attempt at whatever was successful. I mean, it's generated a thread on PH, one of the bastions of resistance of global temperature stabilisation. How cool (sorry) is that?
I'm surprised that so many of the PH massive have seen and admired the document. I mean, it's written in Latin, and I don't speak it, apart from legal terms.
Sure it didnt do all that was needed. But it started a process. It is, though, the most over-rated document in English history. What can anyone really do to you? You're mid 80's, they're extremely unlikely to jail you and even if they did I doubt it's any worse than a £50k a year nursing home and you can still watch Corrie.

I don't want to start an argument, but it did nothing. Its intention was to give the Norman gentry some security over their land. It failed to do this. When John kicked it into touch, it was dead. The peasant's revolt, although it had nothing to do with the peasantry, tried again, the organisers wanting their interests looked after, but it too failed. The one thing that worked was hitting the monarch's powers. Will and Mary came in with their powers restricted and then parliament, in reality just the Lords, had a certain authority. Once voting dropped down (or up, depending on your point of view) the scale, around the third Reform Act, power was finally within grasp. It had no connection to Magna Carta. From Reform Act part III we got to 1928 when we had a form of democracy, after the powers of the Lords was finally limited, and not before time. It's not been 100 years since every adult had a vote. If it was somehow the power of MC, then it was a slow burner.
I accept it might have been an idea, some sort of rallying call, but it was a myth.
I'm all for destroying myths. We should acknowledge the work of those who got us through from autocracy, then aristocracy, patriarchy and left us with our current plutocracy.

Back on topic, JSO know that their activities are not raising awareness of the causes and effects of climate change, and that their only tangible result has been to get people annoyed at them.
And they know it because they commissioned a survey to find out how effective their protests had been, and that's what it said.
Here it is

Wow. So the most significant outcome of all the protests and disruption is 'we didn't piss people off as much as might have been expected'. I've long seen the majority of the JSO brigade as middle class self righteous tts with too much time on their hands.

Not fair play at all.Vandalism is vandalism. Morons are morons. Being old excuses neither.

Quite why they have published it would be a better question. I guess there must be some people who will read it and think yes I have to join a pointless organisation and get myself a criminal record, lose my job and possibly go to prison.
