I still have the old EVO magazine of the group test with the 3.2 litre version - it was rapid but ultimately not as dynamic as the E46 330ci or the 350Z. I think it finished third, so it was still considered better than the Audi TT 3.2, RX8 231hp, Holden V8, and the Crossfire.
The thing people tend to forget about the V6 Busso is its torque. If you look at the in-gear stats in that review, it's quicker than the Monaro! Probably a fair bit lighter.I did a feature for Auto Italia a while back and a chap turned up in his GTA Sportwagon. He also owned turbocharged Subaru Legacy and apparently the GTA had more in-gear shove.
The V6 does need a diff and a suspension kit, and Michelin PS4s.
I was really tempted to buy a GT in 2004, but business use meant a diesel made more sense at HMRC mileage rates. So I bought a BMW 320td because it was more powerful.
I definitely prefer the GT to the Brera in terms of looks, and by all accounts the GT drives much better than the Brera which had eaten all the pies!
But £415 a year Road Tax seems expensive for a 165bhp 4 cylinder when my 2005 BMW 330i in the same band but has 258bhp.
But it doesn't look nearly as stylish. Great Shed anyway.

Controversial opinion - the GT is a better looking car than the Brera
Great shed
No, not even close. The GT is just a 147 with a boot, Overrated and poorly proportioned IMO, Looking relatively too narrow, tall and long. A two door saloon in comparison and bland. Great shed
The Brera is sublime although only in terms of style.
Did the GT have the red/brown ECU key ? Not a deal breaker for a shed, could explain the price.
A mate of mine bought one late 90s/early 00s. It was a nice car to be in though the styling never really looked right, as others have said quite narrow and tall for a Coupé.
I bought a FIAT Coupe 20v turbo after test driving a 2.0TS GTV. I wanted the V6. Never regretted buying the FIAT, still love the GTV.

If I could have the engine and drivetrain from my bmw in a gt it would be my ultimate car.
As has been mentioned, switch coating go sticky, door handle hinges snap, seat fold cables break, sills get badly jacked and rust, sandbags inside cause them to rot inside out, rear shock pans fall apart... Still love them.

Definitely Shed of the Year and looks to be a really nice example. Plus it’s an Alfa which is great.
However, I personally never liked the looks of the GT and would prefer a 156, 159 or GTV.
Seconded. It looks a great example but, to my eyes, Alfa have made much prettier cars including the three you mentioned. However, I personally never liked the looks of the GT and would prefer a 156, 159 or GTV.
Mind you, I also rather like the Mito

Lovely looking cars. I've yet to scratch the Alfa Romeo itch... got as far as test driving a 147 in the shed price bracket but it snapped the cambelt on the test drive!
Same here.I reckon to have one though you have to be good at twirling the spanners which I'm not.
They really do make some beautiful cars both inside and out.
Couple of minor errors in the article….
The gearstick is definitely not ‘topped by a chunk of aluminium... it’s plastic, with some kind of metal plating, which eventually wears through and peels away from the plastic, turning the gear knob into a good rendition of a cheese grater. Ask me how I know… it behaved like solid metal though, as it was freezing in winter.
And the wheels are not ‘Lamborghini-look’ - they are a version of the classic Alfa teledials (in my opinion, the second-best version, after the Giulia QV). It’s more likely that the Lambo wheels are “Alfa-look”….

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Recaro seat's in these. By far the comfiest seats I've ever sat in.
Had my GT (1.9JTDm) for 3 years, and with a decay and remap was pumping out 200BHp with a shed load (no pun intended) of torque, used to embarrass M3's of that era.
And yes, they are better looking than the fat ar5ed Brera's. And handle far better.
My GT. with Jet fins!
Very nice, looks as though that has the same oxblood leather as my white one, as well as the jetfins. The seats are so comfy, we drove to Vienna and back in ours, what a superb experience.Had my GT (1.9JTDm) for 3 years, and with a decay and remap was pumping out 200BHp with a shed load (no pun intended) of torque, used to embarrass M3's of that era.

I absolutely loved that car. Never missed a beat.
I think these are good cars but to make this remotely acceptable will need thousands and it's just not worth it and I doubt it was ever or ever will be special enough to be come an investment opportunity. They had great road presence and to be fair Alfa made sure the bits you can see resisted rust. But seemed to have a different attitude to the metal bits you didn't see so they do tend to rot out.

The diesel in my GT is the 1.9 GM unit I think. It was mapped by the previous owner - 200bhp and 347ft lbs of torque. It is very driveable at slow speeds and gets high 40's mpg.
As far as I'm aware, the 1.9 diesel in all the 147/156/GT range is the JTDm Fiat Alfa lump - inrtoduced for the 156, long before GM was involved. The engine is strong an reliable when looked after, but the gearbox can be fragile, especially when the engine has been mapped for performance, rather than economy. Apparently, GM now part-own the rights to the 1.9 lump following their separation from Fiat Group. So - you'll see an equivalent engine in all manner of stuff, from Astras, Vectras and Zafiras (badged as CDTi) as well as a few Jeeps and a handful of Saabs.
Shed of the year.
IF I was in the market for a right hand drive classic I'd have it snapped up for summer duties, right away.
But we would have to get rid of the number plate: 0Y07FME
I hope the one owner translates as a one LADY owner, with some salty humour.
Do we need to fear for shed not spotting the occasion. Or was this "shed" the postmistresses?
