A two year old Alfa for £46k? They're depreciating fairly quickly now, but doesn't help they've increased in price significantly in the last 3 years.

Owned one before, and for me it'd be between that and the C63.
Exactly the same thought I had beer

A few years back I was in Mercedes World and they had an S63 coupe indoors. I thought it was a C63S. I still haven't worked out what's the difference. They look the same.

Tempted by the Merc. Lovely blue but ‘orrible white-stripe chairs, so no.
Gotta be the Giulia QV, then. Especially when it’s a 1-owner with an FSH.

Really nice cars.

Don’t think a car enthusiast would question your decision if you had any on your driveway.

It's hard to work out what the price of a new QV is. Headline says £80-£85k but pre-reg stuff seems to be as low as £65k, ex-demo £63k.

My, albeit modified, M140 would be quicker than most of those for less than half the price. I’d love a go in a caterham 620r for a day I bet they’re an absolute riot!
Yes but yours is a run of the mill compact BMW, these are stand out cars in their own way,( not meaning to be rude by the way. )

Doesn't seem long ago that a 997 Turbo was well unddr £50K.
From that list I'd probably go GTR, but I have no.desire whatsoever to own a GTR

There are sub £20k Teslas that would probably blow your M140 out of the water. It's not all about 0-60 top trumps.

Wow those Alpha do look good value. A brand new one for £66k. Presumably the dealer has got hold of a one off for some reason. D Salmon Cars seems to be a Subaru dealer and the images of the Alpha are stock pictures from the continent with LHD

GTR probably the fastest all weather option especially on our roads.
The Caterham the most exciting.
But the Alfa is the best overall package. Brilliant car.

Correct, but Iv had a C63 the older 6.2 though and the M140 better in every way bar sound.
M3 here is identical interior, almost identical drivetrain same 3ltr 6, handle handle better out the box but If also modded suspension and it’s been faster than F80’s on track.
QV I’d really fancy as a new daily and GTR as always been an itch to scratch, but with the performance I have for half the price it doesn’t make sense to change. Except for something completely different like the Caterham.

Except it isn’t the same 3ltr 6. Or the same drive train. They’re incomparable. And yes, I’ve had both.

Great list, all cars I'd love to try, just considered the Alfa today while watching Harris drifting through a car shaped whole in some frangiible material on old TopGear, love the Merc and the BMW, the Caterham might be a bit core for me, GTR, yes and would shade the 911.

I meant in general layout, 3ltr in line 6’s with turbo power, rear drive, similar interior similar experience the M3 just turned up a couple clicks. The B58 is praised for being the better of the two engines especially if modding is your thing. As the thread is ‘fast for £50k’ you could go faster in a modded M140 with half the cash of the M3.

Externally quite similar shape but the S is deceptively large, it's like a 1.1 scale version
Internally S is another league both quality and aesthetically
S is the 5.5, C is the 4.0

(C63 owner, would love an S63 but the C63 running costs are already eye watering!)

Good luck - I tried, for some reason even C63 estates have all but disappeared let alone the ‘s’.
I wouldn't be too bothered about an S. I purposely chose a non-S estate to avoid the chocolate e-diffs that cost several thousand to replace when they fail. Two Mercedes specialists both said avoid the S on the diffs alone.

Mine is remapped to c.585bhp, same as what an S maps to should 480/510bhp not be enough.

I think you’re opening your M140i up for a slaughtering here but I’ll try and balance out before that happens.

Probably fair to say if you have modded an M140i to match a proper M car you are looking at brakes, cooling, tuning, suspension, LSD etc which is going to cost a good few £K. Enough to take your M140i to more than the cost of an M2/M4 in which case you would have an even better base to start with and just do the whole remap thing. It’s a never ending rabbit hole that gets silly to the point where the cars are nothing like the original. Start going down those rabbit holes and there is M2s doing 7min12 on the Nurburgring.

I’d imagine there are quite a number of cars where the right person could go faster than your M140i for half the cash again. Anyone who has done trackday knows how fast some hot hatches can go. There’s even an MX-5 that’s done a 7min33 on the Nurburgring biglaugh
