Senedd votes to increase size and cost of devolved government. More politicians takes priority over more doctors, dentists, nurses and teachers.

Senedd votes to increase number of politicians in Welsh parliament and change voting system.

Senedd members have voted to back plans to increase the number of Senedd members and to change the votes system. 43 members voted for it while 16 - the Conservatives - voted against. It needed 40 members to pass.

It means that total number of politicians will rise from 60 to 96 at the next Senedd election in or before May 2026.

At least 16 had the Right idea, though overall the vote was for more snouts in the trough.

Disgraceful.

Remind me about 14 years of Tory "war on motorists"
The main anti-car areas of the UK:

London (ULEZ) - Labour
Oxford (Very anti car) - Labour
Bristol (ULEZ... Anti car...) - Labour (though I believe it's now Greens)
Wales... - Labour

So tell me about the tory "war on motorists"...

...actually, don't bother coz you don't actually engage in the 'conversation'.

So this whole thread IS politically motivated then?

I knew it, I even called it out once and was told it wasn’t.

Imposition of 20mph limits on 37% of Wales road network is politically motivated. It's blatantly anti-motorist.

We had that conversation whilst driving through dry and empty extended 50mph sections of the m4 near Newport and Port Talbot on Friday.

I can understand it during very heavy rain as the port talbot section gets nasty - but it makes so sense that it’s there to cut pollution when the furnaces are blasting all manner of crap out 24x7 and our FM is jetting off to India to seek to extend operations there.

That maladministration is about to inflate by 60%. So are the taxpayer-funded costs of running it.

Don't get me started on this, now this has been approved, Wales will have one MS for approx 40,000 people on average, as opposed to Westminster having one MP for approx 100,000 people. st like that shouldn't be decided by the Sennedd, it should be decided in a referendum vote. Maybe include a vote on abolishing the Sennedd totally? See how they get on and exactly what people think of them?

I'm sure there'll be someone along shortly to say the uplift is a fantastic idea and the sennedd is extremely good value for money mind you? winksmile

That would be a dose of comedy gold to help kickstart Sunday.

By virtue of the subject matter, there will be political commentary...

...but the point being that it's not just limited to a single party as both sides have had their anti-car policies, with some being bigger than others.

eg: Whilst Bo-Jo may well have introduced the ULEZ into London, Khan extended it right out to the boundaries. Thing is, had Khan not pushed it through, the older cars would have quickly faded away, to be replaced by the cleaner cars anyway. Whilst it caused a whole lot of negative PR, it didn't stop him getting re-elected.

Dripford decided to increase the AMs in a bid to water down the Tory areas. He has said on more than one occasion that his goal was to rid Wales of the nasty Tories.

The Port Talbot one is a little nuanced though as it's actually 2x different sections:

The section through the middle of Port Talbot was reduced to 50mph to cut noise, due to the proximity to the houses - I get that and happy to comply.

Baglan (Jn41 to Jn42) is 50mph to reduce pollution... That's the bit where everyone goes WTF!! Not only are there the steel works belching out but the dual-carriageway, which runs alongside, is NSL.

Which came first - the M4 or the Port Talbot housing development?

Yep, the houses were there first with much of the M4 elevated section being built at roof / 1st floor height.

Why not use noise barriers, as per countries from Holland to Japan?
