Shot an 85 gross at Harding Park today. Absolutely made up with that from the back tees! What a course. Greens were a tad patchy in places & were pretty slow for a ‘PGA Tour’ course that’s held a major. But given the weather San Fran gets, I thought it was great. No real stand out holes until the final 3 BUT the cypress tress were stunning & the view across to the Olympic course was stunning.

Got paired with a nice local chap & a young college golfer who played to a +5.7. Talk about a different game. He finished -4 through 9 & had to leave as was playing at Stanford in a comp.

Just a pity it was foggy!

Looks brilliant, good knock on a TPC course presumably with rental clubs as well.

Glorious! Well played too.
Agreed - that's some performance giving away that many shots. It's making me yearn for some Links golf soon too.

We're off to Ibiza next weekend and the wife has sanctioned me disappearing for one of the days to go play golf - look to be a couple of courses on the Island - anyone know if they are any cop?

And yet, just like the football team I support (Arsenal) I’m not convinced he’ll be able to do it when it really matters. I’m rarely convinced that he’ll even be able to keep the lead! But he is usually fairly solid on Sundays tbf.

Next week should be good. I’m hoping Bryson, Rahm and Rors all turn up playing great golf, and bring it all the way to Sunday when Scottie will show them all how it’s done, again hehe

Yeah, I’ve changed my mind and I’m fairly sure he’ll win this one biggrin

An absolutely perfect bunker shot. I feel bad for Xander, he’s not even playing bad golf, but clearly Rory woke up today and remembered he’s really good at golf hehe

Superb golf from McIlroy yesterday, unbelievable stuff. Love to see it. Going into Saturday he was 4 back and he ends up winning by what, 5? And could have easily been more. Cracking watch, delighted for him.

Obviously delighted for him as a Norn Oirish man.
Is the Masters a mental thing for him???

I'm not sure, his game had been all over the place, the left miss was killing him. Give him another crack at the Masters this week and he performs much better IMO

Hello,
I've tried all the free apps for scoring, GPS tracking etc.
Wife bought me a new se apple watch for Christmas - use it for work and gym.....and don't like paying for two of the same thing if you get my drift (tight yorkie here).

ANYWAY, AS I've Benn getting into more golf and wanting to get better (played for years with no yardage knowledge other than estimated sight)....so I bought Arccos sensors for my clubs and paired to iPhone and use shot selection from iWatch.

This pushed the cost boat out......and at first I was disappointed with how many shots arccos 'missed'......buthaving persevered for say 8 rounds now I absolutely love the setup.....not cheap though at £140/year.

A friend has the Tag watch, but at £2500.......I won't be buying that any time soon.

I do keep looking at Garmon as the GPS of another friend seems stronger than arccos.......but more expensive. I am looking at the new shotscope for next year, but the app doesn't look as precise or well configured as arccos.

For now I'm sticking with arccos and have got really into the post round analysis with a beer!
Fellow tight Yorskireman here. I have an Apple watch and use U-Swing, A fre app which tells you your yardages. You can upgrade (and pay) for other bits but I find the yardage more than adequate for my standard (20 handicap).

First club major comp for me this weekend. 36 holes over two days with a cut for the top 25 after day 1......

....which sees me through to tomorrow for the final round in 6th place after day 1, 7 shots back.
Good luck for today!
Well what a disaster. Not sure I've ever experienced anything like this before!

Played with two chaps that I've never played with, one chap whizzing around in a buggy who was a nice chap - but the other one was possibly the slowest, most inconsiderate, dopey golfer I've ever ever played with. I later discovered that he is a known slow player and his nickname amongst the older crew is "bungalow" because he's got nothing upstairs!!

The more we tried to pick up the pace, the worse he got:
  • He wasn't ready to take a shot once all round,
  • When he did play, he took an eternity to do so,
  • He emptied out his pockets on every tee box & never had the right tee in his pocket.
  • He wandered around oblivious to the idea that his ball might need to be marked on the green
  • If he did manage to do so, he then didn't have a putter with him
  • He spent an age walking up the fairway from the tee box to arrive just at the time that you were taking your shot and then started clattering around
  • Lost stuff
  • etc etc
Oh, and he also kept opening crisps and bottles of coke in the middle of my backswing or undoing zips in his bag when we were putting......

I was putting a score together, but by the 5th we'd lost a hole, and I was initially joking with the buggy chap that we need to somehow ignore him and not let it spoil our game. After all, this was round to of a major comp!

By the 8th, we were nearly two holes behind, and by now, the buggy chap was making motions to use Mr slow play's head as a ball. The group behind started moaning quite rightly, and the pressure was horrendous from then on.

By the 11th, the group behind hit up towards Mr Slow play after we'd played and he was dithering in the middle of the fairway; He couldn't understand why they would hit up to us if he was not yet out of range - I semi snapped and said politely that they were trying to send him a message to speed up and that we really really needed to pick up the pace as a group - he was oblivious.....

I felt terrible - The more I tried to speed him up, the slower and more annoying he got..... with yet more bottles of coke in zipped pockets he had to open.....

The overall effect was that the slower he got, the more pressure it put on me to speed up........My swing thoughts were completely muddled alternating between needing to play quicker, and incredulity / anger at his behaviour.

I ended up hitting into trouble more than once, before taking a spectacular 11! on the 16th having been sat in the middle of the fairway. I ended up dropping 14 shots on the last 4 holes !

The general advice from others afterwards was that I shouldn't have let it get to me......Sure, I knew that......but it turns out I couldn't actually do it as if I'm stood over the ball gnashing my teeth and thinking I need to hit this quickly, my golf unsurprisingly goes to pot, and I couldn't not be affected.

A range of emotions has followed, from gutted to shocked, to angry, embarrased, and everything else in between.

I’m astounded that the club allow such behaviour.

Need to have a word with the Captain. Perhaps get him to agree to Ready Play, and make a point of completing each hole regardless of where he is?

That sounds awful. How old was he?
Even in a friendly knock it's appalling behaviour, never mind a comp.

I played a winter comp a few months back and the opponent (neutral venue and opposing club) first words were 'i like to chat quite a bit' I think he got the message after about 8 holes of me ignoring him.

The 1st hole felt like the Spanish Inquisition

He was maybe early 60's. Has apparently been a member for 9 years and was a member of a different club before ours (although I've never seen him before) and he had regularly submitted a bunch of cards for handicap. He was playing off 23 for the comp.

I guarantee he's the sort who would pull out onto a main road causing traffic to brake whilst proceeding to sit at 20 under the limit utterly oblivious to everyone behind.

It's an awful feeling on the course but at least it sounds like it was clear he was the issue in your group. Not something you want to be unfairly associated with.

Indeed - That pressure of not wanting to be associated with it made it so that I was almost running between shots and then rushing them when I got there.

And despite that, it made bugger all difference to the pace of our group....because you're only as quick as the slowest player.

When I was really looking forward to everything about the round, to then effectively have it ruined, was incredibly frustrating and mentally tiring.......and 24 hours later, I'm still really annoyed about it.

It's a horrible feeling. Even though it's 100% not your fault you still feel bad - and there is nothing you can do about it with someone like that. Takes real mental strengtht to cope with it - there are strategies but still tough to lose that feeling.

If you have the other player on your side, other than just accepting it or telling him in no uncertain terms that he needs to get a shift on, you have two possible options.

Either. Leave him behind, just play your shots and walk off. He’s got a choice to either keep up or not.

Or, step aside and wave the group behind through, maybe then he’ll get the idea.
