It's certainly not a sthole. It is full of awful tourists of a day aimlessly wandering around, but take them away and its as nice as it ever was, bar the total removal of all the local shops for tourist focused ones.

And what's all this rubbish about swede/turnip.

White turnip has no place in a pasty.

Swedish turnip or simply turnip as the Scots and most cornish call it is the only accepted choice.

For simplicity it should be called swede in recipes for the avoidance of doubt or if we want to be American rutabaga or whatever they call it.

Nobody mentioned white swede except you. And you've also explained what we all meant! biggrin

I cannot believe in this day and age that people do not know the difference between swedes and turnips. Turnips are white, swedes are yellow. They have totally different taste.

Absolutely not true, it's a lovely place out of season when there are no tourists.

I couldn't find a decent pasty in Padstow, even Chough bakery was poor, little meat, dry and lack of seasoning.
I did find a hidden gem last summer, Lorina's Pasties in Falmouth, on an industrial estate, they were amazing !

I haven't mentioned white swede! Whatever that is, at all.

People keep mentioning swede/turnip in the ingredients above. I'm merely pointing out its swede.
The / indicates (to me at least) that itss an either/or situation which it isn't.

We wouldn't want people making fake pasties now!

Although turnip in a pasty shaped pastry along with the proper pasty ingredients would be quite nice, along with carrot, but then it would be beef stew in a odd shaped pie. Not a cornksh pasty.

Not sure if aimed at me I was merely correcting the recipes.

But white turnips can be yellow...! And greenish

A big shout to Ann’s, especially direct from Helston. yum

Disappointed with the lack of photos to drool over though! I could easily live out my (probably short!) retirement years with a daily pasty on a Cornish beach.

You do know that Cornish born and bred refer to the orange root vegetable as both swede and turnip for exactly the same thing? Broccoli can mean the green vegetable that it is or a cauliflower as well. biggrin

Was in Falmouth a couple of weeks ago. Had pasties from Pips and The Cornish Bakery. Both excellent with Pips being particularly peppery which I like.

Yeah I'm aware of that somehow...hehe

You do know I have stated that in my post...perhaps I haven't articulated it well. But seems clear enough to me!

I was using the ‘/‘ to indicate how it’s referred to ‘in Kernow’, rather than either/or.
