Our LG TV records, just needed to add a memory stick/solid state drive. You schedule through the TV planner and can set recurring/series link type stuff too, but to be honest, we just use the iPlayer, ITVX etc apps and stream. One annoyance coming off sky is the sky q LNB doesn’t work with free sat and I can’t be bothered to go up and change it. If I get ladders out it will be to take down the dish
My sky q lnb works perfectly fine with freesat, i dont have an aerial on my house so had to go freesat.

We also have an LG that should record but I never found a memory stick that’d work with it.

Must be a generation thing, either of the TV or my sky Q install - I googled it and the suggestion was I needed to change my LNB when it didn't work

I used one of those SDD things rather than a simple USB memory stick, 256M capacity and it worked ok, but ended up using the apps. You sem to be able to watch a lot of stuff earlier than its broadcast.

Anyway.. we're getting off topic on sky subscriptions. I threw in the towel when I tried to move to Stream from Q, even though I was out of contract they wouldn't downgrade my options as part of the move and suggested I took it out and then phoned back a week later to cancel what I didn't want. Oh, and although I was an 18 year VIP with them, for what I was paying Netflix was now included, but as I was on a legacy contract I didn't get it, and to cap it all, it was my fault for not ringing up to change when my contract had expired some years ago.

It's going to take a lot to get me back onto the Sky.

We had to move the dish because of interference from a neighbouring tree that had grown and was affecting the signal when a strong wind blew from a particular direction. Took some figuring out the problem, that's by the by.

The aerial bod, an independent, connected up three cables from the new dish to the wall outlet. 2 to the old Sky HD box and one to the TV freesat.

When we went onto Q, the Sky bod after being explained the setup announced he had to change the LNB so that it would work with the Freesat. The only thing was he had to mark which wall outlet connection and which flyleaf would work with Freesat, presumably the others won't. No problem since.

I have a B6 and a C1. Neither work with any USB memory stick I've tried, but both work fine with an SSD + SATA-to-USB adapter.

Mine didnt after I left SkyQ, I changed the LNB for a hybrid version that did the normal 2 channel output and also had the Wideband if I went back to Q or a wideband box. It may be the TV or the type of Freesat box you have.

I signed up to an 18 month contract and they still let me cancel. And it was cancelled on the day, not even 31 days notice.
I have an 18 month contract that ends this summer. I like the system but like others here fed up with the price hikes.

We used to have Freesat which was excellent but a Sky dish is difficult for us now. We tried Freeview but that was nothing like as good.

Does anyone know of another product we could try? We connect online though we do have an ariel in the roof which we could use.
What's your budget and what do you want to watch?
If you mean budget for a viewing box rather than monthly subscription I really don’t mind. It’s the monthlies peeing me off.
This is the situation I'm in.

The Sky Q box is great - I don't really watch much live and the interface is very slick.

I've got until the end of the month as I've already given my notice
I just wanted to provide a quick update which may provide some assistance to those coming up to contract end / renewal.

My initial contract was for £89.50 a month (entertainment / cinema / sports / fibre broadband / HD).

Renewal price (with discount £109.50). I would point out here that there is not much willingness on Sky's behalf to move much beyond the discount already offered to you in the mysky app. After threatening to cancel they reduced it to £103 but I cancelled anyway.

That was the beginning of May - I've checked updates on the app sporadically but all the deals were more expensive than the £103.50.

Today I got a text from Sky promising a special offer. After dealing with them on chat they reduced it to £94 and threw in multi user on Sky go.

So it would appear that there is a lot more flexiibility on Sky's behalf once you have cancelled and are on uour notice period as opposed to just threatening to cancel (like it used to be)

Hope this helps

Interesting, I cancelled, got a text saying stay with us exclusive discount. Chatted with them, got nothing. Ends on the 17th.

Will try a new deal once it's completely cancelled but bet I'll get told to bugger off.

It’s getting on for a year since I sacked Sky off in favour of an Apple TV box.

I don’t miss Sky at all. I watched a couple of Chelsea matches from them over Now TV on the Apple box and that’s all the money they’ve had out of me.

On the merry go round again, want to put me up to £110 basic broadband, no sports channels.

really can't be arsed with it every year and I hardly watch it for the £1320 they want to charge me annually.

tell me it was all fine after you'd binned it off hehe

Out of interest, what is the picture quality like on the Now TV app?

We have an Apple TV 4K box (because it’s great and also runs our home automations), but the prospect of binning Sky and still being able to access sport at a more reasonable price is very appealing.

For the entertainment and movies it is fine. Standard HD I think. The sports are not the last word - again it's HD but I think it's limited to 720p. It's OK for the odd match - if I was watching it all the time I'd look for a better quality solution.

This is through an Apple TV 4K box like you have.

You need the boost which is £6 a month for 1080p and 5.1 sound.
However this also allows you to watch in three different places (houses) so could reduce the cost if shared with a friend wink

Ah, right. I'm already paying £11.99 for the match (well it's a day pass to all the sports channels in fact) so that's enough for me.

Check out EE TV and broadband - you have a choice of boxes including Apple TV box (I wanted their Youview Probox because I like to record a lot of stuff) multi room is included (2 rooms) and not an extra.

For £80/month I now get broadband and TV including all TNT Sports and all Sky Sports channels and more. The 'kicker' for me is everything is on the same EPG so no swapping over to a poxy app.

Edit: Just checked and it's dropped to £75

I would happily have the EETV stuff, we have a 4G sim contract with them for our internet, but you have to have their broadband and its not available here, the only ISP we can have is BT and thats only guaranteed at 1mb so not worth having

Sounds like a great deal.

But how’s the picture quality? Looking at the EE link it suggests Sky Sports are all in SD.

That looks like a great deal. Sadly we’re contracted to BT for broadband until October and Sky tv until July. Hopefully this deal will still be available.

Yes sorry my mistake I forgot to add the £6 for HD so ignore my 'edit' it is in fact £80 As regards quality in HD the Sky channels are excellent.

Yeah I want the TV but not the broadband. I've got 900mbps from Vodafone which is excellent and don't want to give that up.
