58" Panasonic LCD LED - sit 6.5-7' away when gaming/watching on my own, 8.5-9' when watching with others (would need to measure exactly)
It's in a nook at the end of the room and I owned it before moving here, had to take the plinths off my speakers to get them to fit at the side of the TV, would've been a perfect fit if it was a 55"...
Used almost entirely for gaming, occasional movie, doesn't have an aerial or STB plugged into it and I don't use iPlayer/catch-up services so no need for a licence.

Glad to see I'm not the only 32" user in here. It's a 16 year old Sony, I wish the bd would break down so I could justify buying a new one (some of the keys on the remote are starting to give up the ghost), although Mrs H is broadly in agreement with buying a new one regardless.

Seems that a lot of TV dramas nowadays feature vital plot details on the screens of PCs or mobile phones or on bits of paper lying on desks which are lost on our miserable little telly.

65" and sit about 125" away from screen. Chose screen size based on the "two to one" ratio and it gives very comfortable viewing experience. No sense of having to "look around the screen", but can imagine it might become an issue with a smaller size/distance ratio.

So did I when I was searching - then I found these on Amazon that look identical............

If you think about it assuming they are mechanically the same dimensions the only difference can be the quality of the lenses? Have to be worth a punt at the price.

You might think you’re council but you’re the first poster to use the same measurements, every one else is imperial tv size and metric distance.

The two should never mix.

As NASA found out with the Mars Orbitor yikes

My excuse is I use metric only tapes and was too lazy to convert 65" to metric wink

65" for me, it's on top of a stand is probably 6" from the wall. Distance from the screen is 3.7m (12.1 ft for the benefit of Promised Land laugh).

I've had this TV around 6 years now, and I'm certainly glad I resisted the calls from the Mrs to go for 55" max at the time. She would agree now I reckon. Even so I think I'm well used to it now and it doesn't exactly look spectacular to me any more.

However, at some point in the next couple of years the time will come to upgrade, and according to that link earlier, I should be going for an 85" TV.

I'm usually of the opinion bigger is always better, but my room is probably only about 4x4m anyway, so it would seriously dominate that wall I reckon. I would most likely be wall mounting (TV would be 6" further away) or filling in the alcove to build a fake wall (TV would be same distance away).

What thinks you lot - 77" or 85" in my case?

As said before, with 4k you can happily have a 77inch from less than 3 metres away, and go up a size too, easily, up to 100inch if dedicated for films and the such like.

However, it depends on what you're watching - something immersive e.g., films, are great to watch on a big screen. If it's your only TV and you'll be watching the news and other 'normal' TV you might find it overbearing.

For all your viewing I wouldn't go any larger than 77inch and 3 metres away. Also, if it's not a dedicated room, the TV could dominate it so I'd go smaller.

77inch if you're happy with how it looks in the space. 85inch would be okay for films but probably too big for masterchef and would take up most of your wall biggrin.

I've just done a mock up of how an 85" TV might look, I think it could work, especially if I got slimmer speakers or just replaced the stereo setup with a surround sound system, many of which do have quite slimline speakers.

65 inch is 144cm wide and 85 inch is 188cm wide - not sure there's that much difference in your pictures?

Tbh. whatever you get you'll wish you went bigger, I doubt you'll think you should have gone smaller, I doubt that's ever even happened!

It should be about right, as I divided the original width/height in pixels by 65 then multiplied by 85 so it should be more or less right I think?

But yeah looking at that it could work. Although in some ways I wish they did 21:9 TVs. That would be more useful, especially for movies.

Someone did make a 2.35:1 TV but didn't take off. Cost and narrow use case perhaps.

Cinema format looks bloody awesome on a big TV though. It'll look great on an 85inch.

If it's the 43" in the lounge, about 10' away to watch the football or bike racing
The 32" in the back room about 8' away
If it's Strictly cum baking mastercook with wood in a new design home in the country, about 3 rooms away.
