Would it be possible to discuss something other than how much money he has / earns?
Considering Mat's video essentially was a showcase of his success (Financial and life in general) I think it's pretty fair to discuss that success.

Also, no one is doxing (Posting his new address for example) which is the norm in the other vlogger thread.
Well quite. He posts a video of his success so far, people discuss his success so far. The White Knighting is laughable.

White knighting? FFS…

I accept I’m in the minority for not caring how much he spends on a toilet roll holder.

Personally I think it’s good that Mat visits and contributes to the thread. I guess if he is okay with the financial discussions who am I to complain?

I will keep my opinions to myself on the subject.

I'm not interested in MA's bank balances, but I am interested in how the YouTube, advertising and sponsorship deals work in general, I know "they" pick up if the videos watched to the end, if people interact with commenting etc but not how that all breaks down. The numbers clearly do work, but as they've been explained to me, they don't.
I also wonder as the channels I watch regarding car work are linked, do they collectively bargain?

I do wonder how much of his audience is uk based and where this would put him in relation to (for example) Eastenders or Match of the Day should he be on tv.

No.

Car TV shows never translate that well for a general audience...

..look at what happened to Clarkson!.. he's ended up as a farmer.

Its all so fascinating because we don't know how it works/ is possible to make good money off youtube.

If mat had just landlorded a few houses and then bought supercars we wouldn't be discussing it.

If he had a tech startup and made a few quid then 20 years ago we would be agog in the same way but not now, we wouldn't be interested.

But phenomenal success by making videos on youtube is relatively new and uncommon so we are all fascinated by it.

I cringe every time he says HWBT because the man is very talented at capturing an audience and story telling. He ain't the most talented mechanic or bodyworker but his talents are elsewhere.

People that can recognise, define and tell a story have the most valuable of talents in any industry - and I'm sure mat would have made it big if he started a double glazing company as a salesman instead.

Hard Work, Character, Determination, Resilience, Discipline, Resourcefulness, Collaboration, Risk and a sprinkle of Fortunate Timing Beats Talent doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. laugh

There’s a picture painted of ‘if I can make it, so can you’, but it’s definitely not true if you’re considering hard work alone.

Without going off topic I would guess he is only talented at capturing an audience and story telling due to hard work. According to his video he's been doing it for years from his BMX days to subsequent jobs.

Similar to elite sportsman, Tiger Woods was telanted at golf as he'd been consistenly practicing since he was a todler.

I don't think it was he who first said it, but it applies...

Im pretty sure the bloke is more talented than about 99% of the population. Add that talent to the very hard work and this is the result.

Theres millions of hard working people round the world, majority of which have fk all.

I know plenty of talented people who have wasted that talent by being lazy.

Hard work matras are great for motivating yourself and others but there is always a huge survivorship bias at play when thinking that was all it took.
