I assume there are similar events that take place over a shorter timespan.

Is it a winter only sport? I imagine it might be somewhat less challenging in the height of the summer biggrin
Deodorant companies sponsor it wink

The Motor Cycling Club run the three long distance trials for bikes AND cars.

https://www.themotorcyclingclub.org.uk/mcc-events/

There are plenty of one-day events for cars.

Motorcycle trials is a rather different sport, especially at the very top level.

A fair number of Motor Clubs run Trials, they used to be called Production Car Trials (PCT) rather than he long multi venue events like you saw, many are run on an evening lasting a couple of hours up tricky sections in fields.
It’s a very cheap easy way into motorsport and can teach you a lot about car control, particularly for youngsters who can start driving at age 14 ( I think) and be a passenger from 12.

Just need a small car really, sadly most modern cars are bit too big, but something like that Picanto would be fine.

'New 2025 'T7' Volkswagen California first look - Best Vanlife VW camper yet?' - as per his new vid he mentions the new california is based on the multivan does that mean its not limited to commercial speeds on non-motorway dual carriageways and the like in the UK?

Also, I am always amazed and do admire how overly engineered these campers are, I do kind of like them. I just can't see these prices matching target audiences here in the lakes - seems to work as a business model though.

The old Californias are not tied down to commercial speeds either as they are registered as a camper from new.

The issue is aftermarket conversions can no longer be re-registered as campers easily

That Astra is a true survivor, unmodified and looks in great condition.

Did he live in Forest Hill, or at least very nearby? I 'spotted' a white GTE outside some council type garages around there back in 2008. Annoyingly couldn't see the registration.

It all started before Christmas. We were having a breakfast meeting and I mentioned I was selling my Alfa sprint. He said he had this old Astra he’d inherited and actually asked if I wanted to buy it. I think he said £5k. He showed me some pictures and I told him it was worth way more than that. I told him about Jonny and barn finds. He’s a total non car guy and had never heard of him.
I sent Jonny a message on X with the pictures and the rest is history, well a decent episode of the late brake show anyway.
I’m glad to say Joe is keeping the car and has got a new battery and washer bottle. I think the plan is to get the car back on the road for summer and then a road trip to Portugal next year.

The condition of it was amazing, even stuff like the filters pipes and belts. Nice car and it seemed like no trouble to get it started. Proper time capsule car, as said in the video.

Unusual to see an Astra in that trim being so well thought-of. In Canada we got the same basic car branded as a Passport as a 1.6L basic and cheap economy car, made in Korea by Daewoo with no performance aspirations at all. Wish we had gotten this version.

That Astra must have been so well stored - it was barely dirty.

Poor Jonny, he is coming up with interesting content like the Picanto trial but the barn finds get loads more views. They are good though

I wonder what sort of views you'd get if the Picanto trials story was released as a single 15 minute video (such that it might have been on broadcast TV on TopGear or Fifth Gear) rather than 3 long episodes that the casual viewer might be put off by?

There's also going to be a limited market for content with a Picanto no matter how interesting it was.

Was it interesting, I looked at the thumbnails and never watched the Picanto videos, did not interest me at all.

A Picanto doesn't interest me at all as a car, but what he did with it does. It was a fun series of videos.

Whereas the Astra should have been more interesting as a car, but I found it incredibly dull content. There's only so many times I can watch someone go into a garage, pump up the tyres, check the spark plugs, pour in some fuel and try to start an engine. This to me isn't a barn find. Some of the early ones in the series were really interesting - pulling cars out of hedges and collapsed garages - but just going to someone's house and starting their car for them isn't.

To be fair to Jonny he did state the Astra was not a true barn find, I enjoyed it as it was a true survivor and it was great to see an unmodified one in such great condition.
