Isn't rewilding and landscape recovery essentially investing in the future generations crops?
Regenerative farming, yes. And solar farms do play a part in that with more passive actions.Wales seeing hill farms bought by corporations for carbon offsetting activities. Peat regeneration or tree planting. Nothing to do with Welsh farming subsidies.

Be careful with that, there are literally thousands of Poor Tennant farmers and Scores of Farming Suicides from financial pressure every year.....
Last week's Private Eye says the latest Environmental Land Management Scheme is resulting in many tenant farmers being evicted. Land owners make more from subsidised "rewilding" and "landscape recovery" (ie doing nothing) than actually growing food.
It's not the same as leaving a field fallow for a year.

As an aside, how many ppl in the thread actually have land and animals? ie more than one dog or cat.

Not if there's no-one to farm it.

F'me, someone thinks fields are fallow in 2024.It's not the same as leaving a field fallow for a year.
Or better still read the Private Eye article.

I grew up on a smallholding...aprox 10 Pigs, aprox 10 Sheeps, 2 Goats, 2 Horses a Donkey, loads of Chickens, a couple of Ducks plus several Guinea Pigs and Rabbits, and lots of land and woodland to play in. Now grown up a bit and find keeping animals too much bother and impact on holidays...so we just have two Goldfish now!

3 dogs, 2 ponies, 3 sheep, 30+ chickens, 6 ducks, 2 cats and currently surrounded by about 150 heiffers but they belong to the farmer next door.
150 heiffers (ahem - heifers) - are you in Newcastle on Saturday night?DeejRC said:

We have 25 alpacas on 10 acres, but I grew up on a farm that until recently had 150 cows, 200 sheep and 1500 acres of arable.I miss it actually, most days I think I should have done farming instead of computer programming. My stepdad always told me I didn’t want to though as there was “no money in farming” and never really pushed me to get involved. Mum has ended up quite well off though, but my stepdad was a wise man, rather than a lot of farmers who are struggling because they don’t change the way they do things as “it’s always been done that way” and don’t think of ways to make things easier and more efficient. He very much had Harry M’s way of thinking.

Most of our land is rented, life would be a lot easier if we owned it as we need to build a shed for this winter as we can’t take the alpacas to mums farm from September onwards
