Of course Clarkson's Farm, it has to be, otherwise the show wouldn't be as popular as it is. It does feel a smidge more obvious this season, Clarkson randomly stumbling into Charlie on the neighbouring farm, I smelt that a mile off, but it worked! Very much like classic TG. Found the second half just as gripping and from a pure farming angle it was very educative like S1. Once again we saw the real Jeremy and moreso now Lisa, especially with the pigs and Gerald's diagnosis and recovery.

Seeing Gerald give thanks to the crew as a last word was a wonderful touch, I noticed he was far more understandable this season too.

Haven't finished this yet, think we are 6 into the new season but it is utterly brilliant. That's all. I'm not gonna over analyse and look for negatives, it's just brilliant, nice TV.

TV, smoke, mirrors.
I’m a season behind (don’t have Prime but it is on free to air now).

I watched the S2 episode about the badgers yesterday. JC has a conversation in the office with the vet about them and the footage cuts back and forth between them.

It had been raining, and the vet’s jacket went something like: multiple wet patches, 2 wet patches, dry, 4 wet patches, 2 wet patches, multiple wet patches, dry and so on over the course of a conversation that lasted a couple of minutes.

It was glaringly obvious and surprising nobody from continuity spotted it.

You are counting patches of mud on a jacket. Have a word with yourself.
There is a reason Clarkson takes the piss out of ppl like you.

Put the right people in the right place and manufacture a situation for them to be in, then record what happens. Isn't that the formula for any TV show like this? Its still real and it's still good TV

Rivet counters are a source of amusement or irritation, depends on your viewpoint.

Continuity is a genuine thing that they try very hard to figure out.

For example watch a panel show and they're always only ever drinking from mugs. Reason being mugs are opaque, the liquid levels in glasses give continuity issues if they, for example, want to throw in a reaction shot that wasn't actually a reaction to whatever has just been said.

Smoke, mirrors. People can just accept it or not. But there is a sort who really go looking for it, if that's what gives enjoyment so be it, like that number plate is the wrong year for that model and so on. Though can't get my head round the people who see a phone number in a drama and then ring it. Apparently hundreds maybe thousands actually do that.

When they ran the numbers at the end, much was made about how the 'profits' have already been lined up to be reinvested into the business for the next year so the total money made was zero.

I would have thought that was normal though for farming to start the process all over again for the next year? What use is cash in the bank?

I see they didn't make an mention of the farm shop (I assume this is run as a separate entity probably under Lisas name) nor a mention of JC taking a salary, etc.

Again, I realise its all for TV but was it actually a true reflection of the business?

Yes, all the profit gets put back in. My stepdad always complained that he was short on money for new equipment etc., but when mum closed the farm after he died the final amount in the account means she won’t have to worry about money for the rest of her life despite not having a pension.

It’s crap though, you only get to enjoy it if you get out, which hardly any farmers do

There aren't the multiple cameras and their setups that might be found on say a movie set.
Small point of order M'Lud...... On movie sets, you generally only find one camera. That's because the lighting and set up for one angle won't apply to another.

For TV Soap Operas, there isn't the time for multiple set ups and editing so each scene is delivered more like a play with three, sometime four cameras trained on the set, which will have been built and lit to accommodate the multi-cam approach.

fk me, you’re an unpleasant aren’t you?

I wasn’t “counting patches of mud” - I just noticed that the jacket was obviously changing appearance as the conversation cut back and forth. It was really noticeable and indicated that what looked like a free flowing conversation obviously wasn’t.

Spotting continuity errors is all part of the fun of watching TV IME. I wish I was better at it.

They always predominately use mugs. Glad you cleared that up.

As low as 90?
It's absolutely all stage-managed, and mostly scripted too I'd imagine. Doesn't stop me enjoying it though.

I don't imagine Kaleb braining himself on the cherrypicker was planned, and I doubt the script editor decided it'd be fun to kill a load of day-old piglets.

Obviously they can't control everything on a working farm, but I suspect there's plenty more unscripted stuff that doesn't make the final edit.

Not sure JC planned on being nutted in the balls by the goat either!

Very good series and a good insight into farming and how diverse running a farm can be and some of the economics of it, hopefully next year they will get a bumper harvest to make some decent money.
