Exactly. And since when have the police been involved in CGT?

So I ask again, what's the crime?
You seem genuinely concerned about this.

It'll all come out in the wash in due course smile

Falsely declaring single occupancy discount is technically a form of fraud.

Interviewed under caution.. I’m led to believe this is a DWP investigation.
The "interviewed under caution" bit seems to be solely guesswork by some sections of the media - all we actually know is that the police have contacted her office to arrange an interview.

I think I've said before I have no idea of the range of rules and severity of most of the stuff being mentioned here and in the media but if it does turn out there's some sort of "benefits" type thing gone on (not sure if single persons discount is classed as a benefit but you get the idea) I think that puts Rayner in a much different position than if it's "just" a bit of CGT or something that I imagine a lot of people either don't consider or are ignorant about.

No it’s standard practice, covered under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act and Codes of Practice that apply to police powers and procedures

There is no necessity to arrest, therefore an invitation to attend voluntarily will be made ( though really it’s not optional ) however a caution will be given at the start of the interview and it’s possible that an arrest could be made during the interview ( unlikely )

It’s routine and happens every day in every police station in the country

At least 4 other MPs have sold second homes partly funded by the state (in these cases, by their expenses claims) but won't confirm if they paid any CGT on their considerably larger profits. Several were also on the electoral roll at multiple addresses.

Yeah, but it looks like they are rich so it's okay.

These also need investigating.

Are there any allegations of wrongdoing?

You don’t have to think the rules/allowances around sitting MP’s constituency homes and London homes are right or ethical, but they are what they are

Being registered at more than one address is quite normal and switching primary addresses quite legal if questionably moral

It’s not just Tory MP’s that have been doing it, numerous MP’s from all parties have made considerable amounts of money doing it

But the Rayner case isn’t about taking advantage of parliamentary rules quite legally though maybe morally dubiously, it’s about her honesty and integrity and fitness to hold high office

Yes - but Labour can follow the trend and SKS can just give her another job in a few months.

Did you read the article? The Mirror asked all 4 to confirm if they paid the relevant CGT on their gains, but none would. So yes, they're alleging there may be some tax avoidance.

Did you read the article?

It said they contacted solicitors and accountants who they believed represented the MP’s who declined to comment .. quite rightly I’d say

One said they declared the sale under HoC/HMRC rules 10 years ago and wouldn’t respond further

Declining to comment on private tax affairs is not the same as there being an allegation of wrongdoing.

On one level I admire you. I would dearly love to barrel through life in black & white, no room for doubt or uncertainty. It must be so liberating.
