You are right, there is - I read an article a few months ago about her too. She seemed perfectly capable of doing the job well, and indeed is already doing just that, so why not?

Not sure why anyone would want to be a member of the Garrick, like wise anyone thinking its a place for the old boys to control the world is pretty mistaken. Like Whites, its mostly full of old boys asleep in a reading room which looks a bit like your grans house. The other Pal Mall clubs offer a specific set of people a nice place to stay "in and out", army navy, sailing, oxford cambridge, RAC, landsdowne etc etc. To think there is a load of corrupt deals going on is pretty naive guardian thinking.

Most of the newer younger tory / Reform set go to 5 Hertford Street, Liz Truss's champange lunches etc.
To be fair 5H has excellent service and food.

The dancefloor is a bit diminutive though !

There are indeed, but they are the exception and not the rule. I've currently got 4 large (£10m+) sites on the go, and as far as I know there is only one female "on the tools" - in this case, doing traffic management. Big civils contractors, too, like McCanns.

Nobdoy said it was the rule. You might not like it but there appears to be more females getting in to the industry recently.

Good to know your sites are worth 10 mill plus.

Awesome

Nothing wrong with it. We have black only theatre nights, the WI, and more. So it isn't even like it stands alone in the sense that it's a single category group.

There's no need to look any deeper than that - we abolish all such groups or we don't.
This.

I belong to a small traditional members club. It is a bit crusty and rather dull. However it has probably the best priced wine list in London and decent stodgy food. As such, it is ideal for a boozy Friday lunch with mates or an occasional dinner after work.

Talking business is frowned upon and I don’t entertain clients there. We talk bks and laugh a lot. I haven’t met any business contacts through it but I have made a few acquaintances (and many existing friends belong).

Quite why any woman would want to join is beyond me. It wouldn’t worry me if they did (though is suspect I’d be in the minority of the membership). I have never taken my wife because, frankly, she’d wonder why I hadn’t taken her to Nobu/Cecconi’s/The Ivy/Chiltern FH etc. and instead taken her to a fusty place serving food that she wouldn’t normally choose.

It is nothing like 5HS, Oswald’s, The Arts, Annabel’s, etc which are trendy, beautifully decorated and upbeat. The food and service there are leagues above any gentleman’s club I have visited. They are “insta” ready from top to bottom. Places like Whites, Boodles, C&G, East India, etc are large buildings of fading grandeur. They look good from 10 feet but are rather “asset rich, cash poor” slightly neglected.
