He was getting a bit too powerfully built a while back (too many treats and dinner plate scrapings!) but we've cut back on those - not by too much though - and he's showing much more respectable numbers now. I think he's pleased, even if he doesn't let on, because he's still able to chase those pesky pigeons and bark at the telephone poles properly. It's funny that he still thinks he's as fast as he used to be, the daft old bugger!

The vet this morning laid out quite starkly the trauma Cooper would go through if we were to pursue a solution: the level of steroids we would need would be totally at odds with his diabetes; which would only help the symptoms not necessarily the cause.
He also warned that because of the blood cells issues and the platelets issues that even putting a cannulae in could be huge risk.

We could not put Cooper though that.

So we brought him home and the vet came out this afternoon and put him to sleep. Incredibly peaceful but so bloody sad.

Cooper passed away about 4:15, and has gone to be cremated on Wednesday.

Yeah I am comfortable with what we have done, and reminiscing he gave us 14 fantastic years.

He was a rescue pup, we got him from the RSPCA in St Columb in Cornwall. His mum was the rescued Westie from a home that had loads of dogs where the owner could not cope. Cooper was born in the RSPCA place … the strange thing which we never could quite understand was we were not allowed to take two of the pups. We chose Cooper (who the RSPCA had named Glenn) because of his wonky ear!!

As he passed away I was thinking of the time when as a young pup he got out of the garden and chased a couple of cyclists down the road… they would not stop and so I chased Coopy who was chasing the bikes all the way to the pub!!

Happy times!

Nothing can take away the years of good times for our amazing dogs and their humans.
