My brother's 15 year old collie - lives in the Florida heat and is quite a character.

Sadly, a tumour found on his bladder a few weeks ago, has deteriorated a lot overnight and he's not been eating for a couple of days.

Time is up for the old gent and will be put to sleep in the next day or two - my niece and nephew are devastated frown

Thoughts with the family, rest easy now you good boy.

First time Puck's really sat outside for any length of time the last couple of days, she seems to like lounging around in the sun.

I'll swear he knows it's a Wednesday, and that means training class, because as soon as his lead comes out he does a vanishing act! Little does he know, he's progressed to the next class up after last night and so next weeks lesson is on a Tuesday...

Haha, poor guy, I think puppy class was what swayed Puck around to car journeys, she only went out a couple of times in the car prior to puppy class starting and then after the first week she is straight up into the boot or on the back seat even if i'm only getting a shopping bag out of the car.

Surely all those treats and engagement he must love?

We've had our lab for nigh on 6 years now and she's about to turn 9

So when my sister said her labrador (Our ones Brother) had just had a litter with another of her dogs, and this would be the last time as he was getting his balls snipped(!), we jumped at the chance to get the little nephew of our dog.

Man, puppies are hard work!

We never had that issue with our other dog as she was 3 when we got her, so all the training and puppy troubles were long gone!

But anyway I ramble!

Meet George:

Our older Lab is finally coming round to him living with us now I think she knows he's here to stay!

He's a funny little soul. He's ok when he gets there, kind of a resigned to his fate. Does exactly as he should. Recall always amusing as everyone else dog comes bounding across the arena whilst Nev has what can only be described as a 'sunday stroll with a pause mid way for a stretch'.
As soon as he realises the class is done when the barrier is removed he's off towards the door ready to leave.

I'd wanted to progress to scent work and maybe a little agility with him, but he's so laid back he's horizontal.

haha not a bad thing though if he's just happy to chill! may come with time that he perks up if the rewards are sufficient or he enjoys it! scent work might be the thing that turns him on so to speak!

Sad to report that the elderly Basset(ish) died last Thursday evening. He was on his bed by my side where he has slept for the past 13 years, duvet over him. He'd been a bit quiet that day but before, he was fine, old, but fine. I was stroking his ears and thought 'Crikey lad, you feel a bit cold... oh...!'

Well, hopefully, he had a good life and went easily in his sleep. I miss that fat useless, stubborn, awkward old bugger immensely.

Oh I'm so so sorry, but what a beautiful way to go, being shown love by the person you loved the most.
Rest easy old boy.

This thread has taken a fairly dark turn of late - I can’t believe how many wonderful dogs we seem to be losing at the moment. Such a shame, I know it’s part of dog ownership, and I’m also very aware that my boy Archie, at 12 with a tennis ball sized tumour on his lower jaw, will have his turn before too long (he is, to reassure you all, completely unaffected by it both mentally and physically, save for his now constant dribble and slobber, and still thinks he 12 months old rather than 12 years!), but I’m finding it increasingly upsetting seeing these magnificent hounds leaving us.

But having said all that, this still is by far and away the best thread on PH by a country mile, and one of the first I visit when logging on. smile

It is really tough but seeing the pups on here doing their thing is really uplifting. We still have Cooper on the shelf in the lounge still deciding where to scatter the lad.
I wondered if I would get another … of course I will.
Had a bit of a moment on Tuesday at work when a colleague brought her cockapoo in. Such a lovely young thing… bouncy, cheeky, pesky, inquisitive… decided it for me to get another later in the year.

But still the house seems empty. Absent mindedly said last weekend I was off to take Cooper for a walk!

I have looked at this pic a few times today, thinking about him, the family and the tough times You and they are going through.
And yet, despite that, his wise face shows so much happiness, and love.
Jeez, I will miss him too!
