Having re-read the original question I accept that I was wrong.
That said, my answer was to the first response to your question, which is where the computer was introduced.
In that context my answer was correct.
In your context, I was wrong.

Not quite the same as shifting into reverse, but racing at Combe a couple of years ago, after a great start from the middle of the grid and a good run through Quarry, in all the excitement of heading into the top 4, I managed to slightly lock the front wheels as I braked for the chicane and instead of going from 4th to 3rd, I went straight into 1st. Suffice to say that the flywheel got ripped off, the gearbox and diff got destroyed and the top end of the motor was scrapped.
I’d suggest that it’s not a good idea.
My mate did that on our co-owned Clio. Then when we had finished the rebuild of both gearbox (Sadev sequential, not cheap) and top end he did it again on the next outing!

A question for our Muslim friends.

It's a double header.....

First off, the call-to-prayer in Muslim countries... is this recorded or sung 'live'?

Secondly, having visited many such countries over the years, I've noticed previously this little 'bleep, bloop, blip' thing at the end. For some reason, this always made me smile a bit but have noticed that this doesn't seem to be used anymore. Why's that?
Most around here are live. Some of them cannot sing at all. I think that should be a minimum requirement, with some kind of X factor audition for the top jobs.

There’s a story from work when working on a project in Sri Lanka, one of the younger lads swapped out the tape from the local mosque for GnR’s ‘welcome to the jungle’. It didn’t end well. Locals surrounded the worksite, several people including the PM got fired.

Why are so many British people actively working towards (or supporting) the destruction of Britain and its culture?

If you don't like our culture, that's up to you but why are so many in favour of its erosion....truly baffles me.

I think it's a case yet again of the vocal minority drowning out the happy-to-get-along-without-upsetting-anyone rest of us. It's the price you pay for being decent.

Are they though? Or is it just a certain segment of society who is convinced that they are? And which culture is it that "they" are destroying anyway? The rose-tinted 1950's one favoured by Daily Mail readers, I would imagine.

Maybe ask your question in the NP&E section, where they get all frothy and excited about such things.

It is a telling response, but it's telling us more about you than CC. .

What exactly is being "destroyed" about British culture?

The UK has the 2nd most exported culture in the world. After the stars and stripes, the union flag is the most worn piece of clothing made from a nations flag. British dramas and comedies are known the world over. Countries like China would kill to get the power that British culture has, students from foreign lands are cutting their arms off to get into UK universities. We export arts, knowledge, institutions, humour and language. This isn't the hallmark of a culture under threat of destruction.

I'm willing to bet the culture you think is being destroyed never actually existed in the first place.

Most of your reply leaves me speechless and trying work out if it's satire or not.

I'm curious about what Cupcake's response says about me though - Would you mind enlightening me?

Watching car reviews, I wonder how the car cargo space volume is calulated,
and why litres are sometimes used even though
as any fule kno the litre isn't a base SI unit.
I would imagine it's supplied by the manufacturer and just quoted. I can't see Auto Express messing around with airbags & similar.

And if you give the volume in cubic metres, 1) it will seem tiny, and 2) very few people will understand it.

Perhaps, first, you could enlighten us as to what aspects of British culture are being destroyed?

Not sure what has rattled you, the poster asked a polite and legitimate question.

When people say British culture has been eroded, what they mean is they don’t like all the foreigners living here, especially where whole areas has seen an exodus of “British” to leave these foreigners as the majority.

Which is ironic considering the British are a multicultural mongrel race whose culture is the result of several invasions and occupations; Romans, Normans, the Norse, to name a few.

All these foreigners coming over here, contributing to the melting pot of our culture, eh? smile
