However, can anyone recommend somewhere in the Peaks (preferably south Peaks) which is ok for a night to reintroduce myself back to wild camping.
Or should I just use a nice quiet campsite like we normally do for our camping trips.
Cheers
Always thought you could get away with a few quiet spots in Shining Cliff woods - some nice plateaus up along the highest path with views across to Crich. I know some of my friends have camped just off the High Peak trail a few times too. Suppose it depends how brave you're feeling! There's a low shelf just below Mam Tor summit overlooking Castleton which used to be pleasant, but it's become a bit popular/rubbish hole now.Or should I just use a nice quiet campsite like we normally do for our camping trips.

Otherwise, I don't see the harm in knocking on a farmers door and asking if you and your lad can quietly camp on their land in return for a few beers or something, even just so you know you're not going to be disturbed.
I guess the south peaks doesn't have the high, remoteness of the Dark Peaks and is a bit more 'accessible' to dog walkers.
We're doing the 'Tor Divide' in a few weeks (self supported gravel loop of the Peaks). Need to go and scout the area i think we'll be stopping at for somewhere to curl up quietly for a few hours!

Looking for recommendations for a 2 person tent (or large one person tent) for wild camping, preferably one that erects flysheet first , budget £400 or less ( would consider second hand)
Are you looking at hiking in long distance or just pitching up in a campsite.. All year use or just good weather.. Use makes a massive distance to recommendations. foiled said:

I have a Tarptent Scarp 1, which I got 2nd hand for just over £400 (around £600 if you get a new one imported from the US)1.39 kg, officially a 1 man tent, but VERY roomy inside, could get 2 people in at a push. 2 porches, each side adjustable to either maximise interior space or give yourself cooking space.
Goes up outer first (though I leave my inner attached) with one pole and 6 pegs. Takes 5 mins tops.
Absolutely love it - its like my trusty Terranova Laser Competition1 (1kg, but like a coffin inside) but scaled up to a usable and comfortable size.

+1 for the Scarp. Had mine over ten years now, but hadn't realised quite how pricey they'd got. Mine was $400 including shipping, seam sealing, crossing poles... 1.39 kg, officially a 1 man tent, but VERY roomy inside, could get 2 people in at a push. 2 porches, each side adjustable to either maximise interior space or give yourself cooking space.
