Croft has to go
Discussion
Reading the responses in this thread one can only conclude that there is not a single Motorsport commentator who can satisfy the lot that inhabits this place. Surely the networks that air these programs will one day finally see the light and hire several of those posters here who clearly have found the proper formula to describe races aired on television.
I don’t think people are necessarily saying they could do a better job, just that the person employed to do it could do a better job if he stopped with all the incorrect info and poor ‘sayings’, things like ‘switcheroo’, getting his muscles out when it should be elbows, saying people are on X or Y tyres or strategies when it’s clear as day from the screen they are not, I swear I heard him say LH was on softs quite a distance in to the race when it was only Alonso, good on Nico for correcting all that he did, DC will be being paid a substantial amount of money for doing what he does, if people are contributing to this through their subscriptions why shouldn’t they be able to say they aren’t satisfied without an assumption that they are saying they could do better.

This thread is about David Croft and Sky TVs inability to recognise how bad he is, Sky do employ some excellent pundits , and some awful ones, not sure why you bothered posting !I have no issues with Crofty really, what is so wrong with "Switcharoo" exactly? The stats sure, they are not always relevant to anything and he makes mistakes sometimes, but did you ever listen to Murry Walker, the man was famous for them. I prefer him to Alex Jacques on F1TV/C4 and although I don't mind Palmer, DC has become less and less interesting, especially with him being employed by one of the teams.
I enjoyed Nico today it has to be said though, much as Brundle was top tier, he's become too safe these days, where as this not worrying what other people might think is very refreshing.

I continue to pay for Sky as I still enjoy watching it live and with Brundles' input. I also like when either Anthony Davidson or Button stand in when Brundle isn't around. I must admit it was refreshing to listen to Rosberg today as well
Like many on here, I find Croft commentary & totally pointless stats quite irritating but I've learnt to blank him out on the most part.
Brundle is now 64; It'll be interesting to see who will take over when he calls it a day. That's when I'll consider calling time on Sky (especially if Croft remains)

Very well said, I'm certainly not a fan of him, although, I don't think he deliberately goes out to do a poor job, perhaps SKY should adopt a well versed Team procedure in that after a session there is a debrief, which could help remove the mistakes, in this case that would be a lot, Croft should try to speak less, be more composed, be excited when appropriate , try to leave the st out......elyuw said:

Agree, it was nice to hear stuff that wouldn't normally be said......👍Edited by elyuw on Sunday 21st April 19:13

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion. What's being said here is pretty simple. Croft is terrible.Plenty of respect for Brundle, Davidson and others.

Your the first person I can recall on this thread that has offered some sort of defense or reasoning for Croft. Granted it's a difficult job to please everyone but the majority agree he's not up to it anymore. What we need is the old switcheroo to a more capable commentor. For me, part of the problem is the disconnect between how exciting we're told the racing is and how exciting it actually is. That gap right now is large and I don't like being patronised. Croft is unfortunately paid to promote the sport, which is a tough job when Verstappen cruises to the win every week.
I paid to watch the first couple of races live on sky this year, then I remembered Croft was commentating and between that and it becoming obvious that Red bull would win everything except the occasional race I decided to save the money and go with YouTube highlights instead, no regrets.
For the record, I started following F1 in 1994 so am not a 'new' fan, and I have followed the sport very closely since then. I do enjoy the battles up and down the field, but am I willing to dedicate hours across 24 weekends to it this year, not anymore.

It's the way he triumphantly announces it, as though taking a late apex in order to get on full gas earlier than your attacker is a rare enough event to deserve its own special moniker courtesy of Crofty™The bloke is a muff.

Are you Crofty but doing a "switcheroo" on your name?My understanding is that this is a forum. As the name suggests, it exists to enable posters to express opinions. Nobody I have read states they could do a better job. Plus there are lots of positive comments regarding good commentators. It was just so obvious yesterday that the idiot has no idea what he is talking about. Nico was a breath of fresh air as he clearly DOES know what he is talking about. The "Alonso doing well" comment says it all!!
