I keep reading comments about Newey not leaving the UK because of family commitments ...i mean how many family commitments does a 65yo man have?
& it's not like many folks of that age aren't thinking about relocating to a sunnier climate for their latter years (i know i am & im not 65 or a multi-millionaire)
I think this relates more to a passage in his autobiography where an earlier opportunity to work with Ferrari was turned down because of the travel, younger kids etc. I doubt that is a stumbling block these days with grown up offspring and I'm sure AN can share his drawing board over MS teams to avoid too much travel & it's not like many folks of that age aren't thinking about relocating to a sunnier climate for their latter years (i know i am & im not 65 or a multi-millionaire)
Unknown if he has any, but his oldest children are 40 or thereabouts so one assumes if they're not around then they won't be far off.
Perhaps he doesn't want to be too far from that extended family.
If he does go to Ferrari, I won't be too happy.
We've had RB dominate for years with their single driver ethos. If Newey does perform his magic there, we'll have more years of domination by them as, with the amount of money they've invested in LH, they will want him to win. It'll be a one-man team.

What's your solution to this? Should we ban Adrian Newey, or simply limit where he's allowed to work? We've had RB dominate for years with their single driver ethos. it was something he mentioned many years ago when his kids were young, they are all of course adults now I believe he spends alot of his time in South Africa now anyway.& it's not like many folks of that age aren't thinking about relocating to a sunnier climate for their latter years (i know i am & im not 65 or a multi-millionaire)

That very much depends on the culture and politics of the team these days. I think you would need to work on the team to have much insight into how easy or difficult Newey might find it there. Although... if he does (or has) take the job, one imagines he's given that plenty thought too and has some level of confidence he can be effective there as he was at RBR.

He joined RB in 2006 and they didn't win until 2010. Then they had 4 wins until we had 8 years of Mercedes dominance. We've had RB dominate for years with their single driver ethos. There's by no means any guarantee that Newey going to Ferrari = domination.

Mind you, there was a period that got me excited; each race being eagerly awaited, and that's the Williams and McLaren battles. It's no good looking back.

RB were a fledgling team that needed building up and organising. Ferrari have everything they need to win already. There's by no means any guarantee that Newey going to Ferrari = domination.

I see it as all positive. Could end Red Bull's dominance, give Hamilton a crack at that eighth WDC and then, no doubt he'll retire leaving Leclerc in a strong position to challenge for a title himself and seat for someone else at Ferrari. What's not to like? RichB said:

What's not to like? I'm far from a Ferrari fan tbh, but even I can get on board with this happy coming together of talent
