I think there has been a significant number of people posing as foreigners from other parts of Western Europe trying to scam people who are selling cars recently, I suspect that most people find it easier to write off any foreigner as a scam, than actually spend time trying to work out the difference. frown

The con / scam is usually a buyer from a different country, looking for a sale where it goes to a shipping agent.

I would start by not mentioning you are in France, get the car details, and ask if you can arrange a time to view the car in person.

There is a chance the advert is a scam?
If it seems to good to be true it usually is....
The other possibilty is the person you are emailing may not be recieving your emails. I.e. If because it is coming from a .fr email address it may be getting put straight into junk.
If they are a registered user on here maybe email one of the PH mods, Garlick, Riggers etc and they might be able to get word to the seller you are trying to contact them.

Hope this helps.

Tim.

P.s. Very jealous as I would love to be based in Rouen. Fantastic driving roads driving

I would imagine some people assume it will be a hassle dealing with someone from overseas, some will think you are a scammer, some just ignore messages.

Probably best trying to call if you are interested, and if your english isn't too great track down someone who can speak more fluently to enquire on your behalf.

Out of interest what kind of cars are you looking at?

I don't know why people are surprised these days - Sterling is weak, cars in the UK are much cheaper than cars in Europe - a fair bit of money to be made in taking them over there.

yes in france take the jap' cars in example! for an evo 8 the less price than I find is 19000€
and generally cars are 2x or 3x more expensive than in the UK

no it's not a problem on the jap' car because the people who buy me cars is young so when you have the same car but 40% less than the french price even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side you sold the car !!
but I have a jaguar XJR and this one don't interest french people even if it's 40% cheaper

If they're 3x more expensive over there I guess you could have them converted and still make money...
