It's bad enough PH accepting ads like this in the first place with dealers blatantly trying to remove customers' statutory rights; but then giving it free promotion - and not even giving a warning in the text - just speaks to a poor attitude to towards their target audience... us.
Although I'm not the kind of person to run back to a dealer about every little thing... I've got a very bent conrod* sat in front of me which came out of an Alfa 2.0 TS engine 3 months after I'd bought it from a dealer... it was cheap as chips and he'd given me double what anyone else would on my knackered (issues declared!) trade-in, so I shrugged and put it as spares or repair on ebay... at the shed end of the market, this is just the risk you take... but at least he didn't try and tell me I'd have no hope before even taking my cash!
*kept to remind me no matter how pretty an Alfa looks, don't buy another one!
Looks good - I have a soft spot for the GT
Wish I'd known about them when we replaced the wife's Celica gen 6 with a Hyundai coupe.
We ran a 156 after that and the chassis kicked the pants off the Celica and Hyundai (which had apparently been tweaked by Porsche?)
Not sure I can stretch to a fourth car on the drive now though, and a V6 would ultimately be the model to have as a keeper.

As far as I'm aware, the 1.9 diesel in all the 147/156/GT range is the JTDm Fiat Alfa lump - inrtoduced for the 156, long before GM was involved. The engine is strong an reliable when looked after, but the gearbox can be fragile, especially when the engine has been mapped for performance, rather than economy. Apparently, GM now part-own the rights to the 1.9 lump following their separation from Fiat Group. So - you'll see an equivalent engine in all manner of stuff, from Astras, Vectras and Zafiras (badged as CDTi) as well as a few Jeeps and a handful of Saabs.
I am not even going to comment on the gearbox, but if the gearchange linkage should ever become detatched from the gearstick. leaving you stirring the pot without any gears, the n you will be able to get a solution from a Vauxhall Zafira.

Don't do it, get the 1.9 diesel. It is lighter, better handling. I have owned 5 seies BM;s, 528i, this is quicker easily. I maxxed out my E28 on the Mulsanne at 135mph (on remoulds - sorry forum members).Wish I'd known about them when we replaced the wife's Celica gen 6 with a Hyundai coupe.

My Alfa hit 140mph on the autobahn with around a 1,000rpm to go, but I hit traffic and being an old sod, decided to slow down.
The Busso engine comes with it's problems, you need to warm them up, oil drowns down after each drive, you have to be patient.

Gus at Alfatune is a star. He fitted a pair of C&B fast road cams and remapped my JTS. Allowed it to rev much more freely and made it sing at the top end. He was everything you would expect of an Italian car specialist from smoking around in a 159 to having an old spider under a dustsheet in his lockup!
Better looking than the Brera for sure! Maybe not the front end but the Brera is a frumpy looking thing round the rear quarters. Not a fan of the GT Blackline personally, I think it’s such a pretty car in nice colours so for so many of them to be nondescript black is a shame.
Had a 1.9jtdm GT for a few years, deep blue with 18” Jetfins, gorgeous to look at, pleasant enough to drive and a nice interior, good economy on a cruise and I did 50k miles in mine. However the continuous suspension issues were unforgivable and the engine was a pretty minging rattly thing that gave lots of emissions equipment and turbo problems. Replaced it with a 159 with a later derivative of the same engine. Seats were miles better in the 159, suspension was sensibly designed and not consumable, it was a breath of fresh air for all of 20k miles until the same s
tty engine produced the same stty problems. Horrible engine and I’ll never touch one again, my 159 was wonderful but was dead at 110k, car mint but JTDm terminally buggered.
Of course the 159 was a huge step up in quality in most respects, weirdly the one thing I missed from my GT was the steering wheel, a really elegantly designed piece which hid the airbag well, the 159 wheel felt cumbersome in comparison.

The GT is a great car, but beaten by the 156 in all but looks. I had a 3.2 GT and a 2.5 156 (and 1.8 before this). I preferred the 156, better to drive and better build quality.
Interesting-I ran 2 156s back in the day- great cars for their time (late 90s to early 00s) and presumed the GT was same platform, engines and interior, essentially a re-bodied 156 in coupe form?andyA700 said:
