An epidemic of insanely slow drivers

There are people who seem to think it's ok to go 15% faster than the 70 limit (86mph) yet won't accept that others may want to go 15% slower than the 70 limit (59mph). Such hypocrisy.
I generally want to drive at twice the limit - the only reason I don't is because I don't want a jail sentence or banIt's rarely because I'm late, I just enjoy driving quickly
I never drive slowly, if I have 30 minutes to spare I don't go and sit in my car on the drive
If I get stuck behind some dawdling fool I can feel my life being drained out of me - why do they get to be so selfish as to delay tens / hundreds of people every time they drive
How are you defining hypocrisy - because I'm not forcing them to drive at double the speed limit - although if I could buy a remote control that could do that - I might !
Saving lives and the planet...

This is where you lose any credibility getting personal about other drivers.
Typical stereotype from those of you who believe they are gods gift to driving when describing those they think are not worthy of holding a driving licence.
It's as if you feel the need to justify what you are saying by using derogatory language about others.
I bet a lot of you also post in the council thread in a similar way
Possibly but tis true in my lived experince...I've never seen a slim attractive women lost it in a car. Apart from those beside me obviously. But pushing it with the attractive on some of them.Typical stereotype from those of you who believe they are gods gift to driving when describing those they think are not worthy of holding a driving licence.

Very entertaining read however I think you're wrong in saying it's just blokes. I've seen a lot of women do similar and just having poor road manners. Many times I've been waiting to merge into a slow moving lane from a petrol station for example and seen women speed up and not allow me out. Only to overtake them further up the road when it turns into dual carriageway.
And usually rather fat unattractive women ime. Typical stereotype from those of you who believe they are gods gift to driving when describing those they think are not worthy of holding a driving licence.

I observed a case of slow driving followed by pure pettiness this morning.
Was commuting in a 40 area, sat behind an Astra who was sat behind a taxi doing around 30mph. I knew there was a NSL section coming up and if the taxi didn't make progress I'd hoped the Astra would make a move and I'd follow. As hoped, no traffic ahead and the Astra pulls out to overtake, I get ready to follow but then the taxi decides to speed up and effectively MATCHES the Astras speed whilst alongside in the oncoming lane. They were side by side way longer than they should have been, the Astra ended up pulling in practically cutting off the taxi, then a few hundred yards later the taxi turns off the road.
I'm unsure if it was pure pettiness or just a case of not paying attention, but could have been dangerous. Wasn't fun following him trundling along for a few miles already so seeing him do this was the icing on the cake, kn*b!

If you believe that driving at the posted limits, or at least trying to do that, makes a person a `driving god' then the standard of driving that you aspire, to must be disastrously low.
Yes it is, and that has unfortunately contributed to my driving record over the 55 years since I got my full licence.I just bumble around doing my own thing, looking around in wonder at the beautiful countryside I live in, especially this time of year, at a speed that suits me.
I am retired, I have all the time in the world, so why the need to hurry anywhere?

Which is fine providing you don't delay those who want or need to make progress.I am retired, I have all the time in the world, so why the need to hurry anywhere?

People are entitled to drive at any reasonable speed they chose and this is not necessarily at whatever the limit is. The police have no issue with it, most other road users have no issue just a few posters here that seem to post complaints across a number of similar threads. It would appear those posters are stressed so maybe it would be better to learn acceptance and tolerate other road users.

I'm rarely in a rush but driving slowly is dull - if I want to take in the view, I stop
It simply isn't safe to drive around at any speed, looking at the scenery

To assume that they have no problem with it suits you and only you, and is further evidence of your own self centred, entitled view of the world.
A tiny bit of awareness outside of the bubble you live in along with a smidgen of consideration for other road users may go a long way to make the roads a more pleasant place for everyone to use.

That is a somewhat huge assumption - you have no idea how annoyed/stressed others drivers stuck behind you are getting, or how much it may then contribute to any actions they then take.

Indeed. The feeling of entitlement to 'do as one pleases and stuff everyone else' is clearly not confined to the younger generations. To assume that they have no problem with it suits you and only you, and is further evidence of your own self centred, entitled view of the world.

Who said anyone was stuck behind me as I made no reference to the speed at which I drive? It seems you interpret what you want rather than the written word.
Surely it is reasonably to assume that if a person posts here to complain about others it is causing them concern and they consider some other drivers to be a nuisance. The very wording of some posts imply stress.
I reiterate as you didn't seem to get it first time "I learnt a very long time ago that if I became impatient the only person becoming stressed was me so for many years I have gone with the flow.
The people in the bubble are the ones that expect other drivers to comply with their speed requirements, not vice-versa

Funny that but in all my years driving I have never had or caused an accident and the only Insurance claims I have had have been for three cracked windscreens over the 55 years of driving simon_harris said:

There is not an epidemic of insanely slow drivers.
What constitutes insanely slow to you lot, 10% below the limit, 50% or more below the limit, which to me seems a better use of the word insanely
We all see the occasional driver who drives below the speed limit and holds others up, but it is not widespread across the UK, all day every day, as hinted at using the word endemic, and certainly not driving insanely slowly.
Of the millions of cars being driven each day in the UK it would mean that probably at least half of them are driving at less than 50% of every speed limit and the country would be at a standstill.
Talk about poetic licence.
Tell us about all the drivers you see each day who drive near , on, or above the set limits and this thread would be many thousands of pages long.
Some of you need to get a grip with reality and learn how to deal safely with the occasional driver you come across out of the millions on the roads daily, who does not drive to your required standards

They've existed since the dawn of motoring but became an issue with the arrival of the affordable common rail turbo diesel. The discounted VED lured millions in and amongst them were that niche that viewed every situation in life as some form of queue and that everyone was in this imaginary queue. This subsect of the loser community were suddenly weaponised. They went from their Austin Princess coughing out a little ball of black smoke when they floored it to try and block a pass while their car did nothing, or their Cavalier or Mondeo raising its bonnet an inch when they buried the throttle yet the car doing nothing else to suddenly having an annuity spec diesel BMW and it actually moving forward to create the potential extremely dangerous situation that they have always wanted to create.
The modern, cheap, turbo diesel empowered the broken middle management mind of adenoidal male Britons.
You still see them to this day. You go to pass and you watch them slam their foot down to try and keep another car out on the other side until an oncoming vehicle completes their manovre for them. Or on the motorway when you indicate to move out you see their lights flickr as their bonnet rises because they've buried the throttle to try and create a confrontation which they can then safely self medicate over without the risk of being punched or spoken to.
They're the weird blokes who try and police merge in turn zip instructions by blocking an entire lane a mile from the point where everyone is supposed to simply merge.
They're the men enraged by a cyclist daring to slow their progress because of someone is on a bike they must be inferior and so being held up by a lessor human is a grotesque affront.
They're enraged when they see a woman in an SUV or a man in one that they deem to be inferior to then on grounds of skin colour or on trend street clothing.
And yet they will crawl prostrated in the dirt if it were a member of the landed gentry before them or just bow before you when they realise that by their own insane hierarchical system you are multiple rungs above them and then they persist in toadying to you and spoiling the event that you are at because they just follow you around.
The U.K. is riddled with these blokes it's very much a British disease caused by a devout belief that for some wholly unjustifiable belief they are important people. The obsequious toady. I have never found it replicated in any other culture to the extent it is in Britain.
Add to the bosch common rail diesel injection, the Garrett Variable Nozzle Turbo, which allowed a big turbo to have small turbo's response. (I was the manufacturing engineer that brought in the assembly lines in the UK for the Ford Dagenham sales, pretty much following the manufacturing method used by my colleagues in France Italy and Romania for the rest of the European car companies) The modern, cheap, turbo diesel empowered the broken middle management mind of adenoidal male Britons.
