I'm always amazed at cat owners discussing things with moggie, as if they understand.

Me and the dog always have a good laugh about that.

To be fair my car is often more conversational than my teenage daughter.

In general, no. I might give my 212k mile E46 a pat on the steering wheel if it starts up and drives with no issue after being parked for a long time - it is a second, dry weather only car now to slow down the rust a bit.

However, I definitely have a sentimental attachment to it now. It isn't an M3, but it has been part of two funeral processions for elderly relatives and it has also acted as a wedding car twice (don't ask). That combined with owning it for more than 10 years anyway means it is stuck with me until it is no longer financially sensible to keep it going and that'll be a difficult day.

Not generally as I'm not one of life's anthropomorphists, although I'll sometimes include the car when talking to myself (we all do that).

I must do it more than I realize, however, as when driving a then brand-new, hired Transit I made some comment or other to the van and the damn thing replied! It was the first time I had driven a vehicle with voice activated electronic gizmos and was quite disconcerting!

Nope

Although I don't think I've owned a car long enough to become attached to it

But do you know what either is ACTUALLY thinking about you?

No.

And don't get me started on giving cars names either!

I have spoken to my car in the past, well shouted "you vicious b@stard" while thrashing it with the branch of a tree.

in the 90s, I crashed my Capri through a wall.

I did stand in front of it and say "Show Me", but nothing happened frown

Yes.
All my cars have had names.
I congratulate them everytime they reach a motoring milestone.
A clean MOT.

I've been known to say to the mighty 3 pot Fabia about it's eagerness at over 150000 miles to go along the M56 to a dark satanic chemical works.

I drive a Tesla so when it’s on cruise control and randomly hauls anchor because of a truck parked in a lane other than the one we’re in I give it the sort of talking to you usually save for the sort of idiot that pulls out without looking at a junction, stupid bloody car
