RIP. Very sad. Agree disgusting the council only now fix the pot hole after someone has passed away. The council needs to be held to account for this.
It's not established what happened and if a pothole had any effect at this stage - we've been playing 'hunt the pothole on the other thread and finally found the one pictured in the reports which is way back down the road, and could have had no part in the tragedy.

A pothole clearly played a role in triggering the accident, though not necessarily the one pictured in the article.

However the driver had many choices once they saw the pothole, including braking hard and driving slowly through the pothole etc. Instead they chose to swerve it by so far they drove into a car coming in the opposite direction.

That is avoidable driver error. Either the driver did not see the oncoming car, or mis-judged the positioning helped by the car being left-hand drive. Maybe the driver was not as familiar with left-hand drive whereby it is harder to judge the position of the right side of the car on the road.

The pothole triggered the sequence, but it was the driver who drove the car into an oncoming vehicle. The same would have happened if there was a dead badger/deer in the exact same place on the road (which happens a lot on roads in this area).

Looks like a heart attack or something like that. Never a good time to meet your maker and condolences to the family.

But whats to say that the pothole caused enough of a jolt and instant anxiety that it triggered a medical condition to ensue.

Why does the thread need to be taken down?

It titled, bad GT2 crash near Goodwood, which is accurate

That people have speculated based on newspaper reports is another thing, but there’s nothing wrong with the thread itself

The mentality of "ban everything I don't like" has become so rampant on this site with people falling over themselves to prove to anonymous strangers how moral they are. You also increasingly see this in public discourse at all levels of society which is even more worrying

I ended up here because a random YouTube appeared on my feed discussing it. The bulk of which was due to the thesis that the pot hole was the cause. Obviously I believed this at the time but now know believing something written by the Mail is probably always going to be a mistake. I used the search and found this thread and made a Post with a pothole related comment which seemed to upset some people so I deleted it. Perhaps I am the cause for some of the recent posts and therefore I thought I should make another Post now explaining that. I did not intend to upset anyone but clearly I did.
