Manuals seem to have peaked but I just wonder if the fad will wear off and the massive premium over F1 cars will gradually narrow as nostalgia disappears with the next gen kids on block
This ^^^

Just because it’s a manual doesn’t mean that it’s more likely to hold its value. In fact, there’s a greater risk that the manual premium would erode.

If one of your requirements is to avoid the doghouse for a financially imprudent purchase, then I suspect you’d be better off in a 430 Scuderia or 360 CS although a bit of budget stretch might be in order. Another alternative which is in-budget and is under-appreciated is the F12. Eminently more practical and comfortable than the F430 and as much (possibly more) of an experience to drive for those high days and holidays.

Thank you to all who've replied. I'm in Australia right now but looking forward to viewing the cars on the market once I'm back next month.

Unfortunately, the above post re: manuals got me double checking what else is in budget letting a computer shift for me, and part of that answer is a lot of Lamborghini Gallardo, including a Balboni. I'll have to see if I fit (6' 2" mainly in the torso) - I get the impression this will be less of an issue in the F430?

I imagine I'll end up buying a the car I'm going to enjoy driving the most, rather than sweating over any potential value uplift. The car will be owned for many years, I need to focus on enjoying driving during those! ATM I think this means a manual, some test drives should confirm.

Cheers

This is what I did, purchased mine in 2016 not long after this thread was created. Haven't looked back since. Enjoy and don't forget to post pics as and when you do purchase!

Will do! A nice dilemma to have!

One other thing - why the excitement around shields? They obviously look quite cool, but a "must have"? What's the story here?

Thanks!

I've now seen a couple of Nero coupes, and definitely feel the market is softening on these. Whether this is less pronounced than more modern models I'm not sure. I'm looking at circa £115k for a Nero coupe with 23k miles, with carbon buckets, Shields and Challenge wheels on top of the usual carbon dash and coloured calipers/rev counter. Tempted to buy given it's the spec and colour I'm after, but part of me wants to wait and see what happens as we go onto winter!

Not going to be many in that desirable spec so if u snooze prepare to lose.

Is it worth waiting to save £10k maybe , possibly if you plan to keep it years anyway.

Only takes 1 other person to pull the trigger and as the price has already come off its peak it doesn't seem a mad price anymore

Offer made and accepted, just waiting on a PPI. Now on the hunt for a specialist in the Bristol/Cardiff region, as well as thinking through options on the exhaust. Does anyone have an idea on current cost of the various Capristo options to resolve the issue with the manifolds? Suspect "mine" is on the Mk2 Ferrari ones. Thanks for all the advice so far!

I just bought one… manual, black / Nero / giallo. CCM, carbon, shields, capristo etc. Plan to do a couple of thousand miles per year. Major step up on previous cars (inc. GT Porsches) in sense of occasion for the odd drive. And even driving slowly the manual box is lovely to use. Had it a few days and loving it so far.

That is very well specified for a manual. I think that even the F1 versions feel special compared to my previous Porsches including GT4s and 911 Turbo Ss. Enjoy in good health.
