You may be right. I remember my father teaching my grandfather how to drive an automatic. He drove with one foot on the brake and one on the gas pedal, not wise.
Left foot braking is a great way to improve your lap times though, you get much better car balance.

I reckon the most common automatic accident is people who have put their car in reverse, been distracted for a while and then took off going backwards instead of forward. I had a twit do that trying to get out of a car park boom gate. Reversed to press the intercom, engaged in conversation and left it in reverse. Needless to say I backed up and had my palm ready to press the horn. Sure enough, said twit then starts approaching me at some speed. Loud horn sounds ensue. Dodged a bullet there.

Modern Porsches have a hissy fit if you have input on both peddles at once and kill the power which (seems like) takes ages to come back in. I’ve had a couple of dodgy moments pulling out in a gap when brake is released with some power already applied only to find engine didn’t really want to go. I wish it could be dialled out of the software somehow. In a Cayenne hill hold is useful for smart set off.

Had something similar happen to me in the Vantage a while back. Woman in some some tall crossover thing was in front of me waiting to pull out of a side road onto an A road. Out she goes, gets a little into the road, sees a car, panics, then I was presented with a thing rapidly accelerating towards me in reverse. Went a bit up the bonnet before sliding back off. Thankfully not a write off that time. New bumper, bonnet, lights, grille and wings and a £20k insurance bill.

Said she didn’t see me cos I was ‘too low’…..

Oh she considered the blame was yours then, whilst the reversing beepers were reverberating in her ears, prior to colliding with your stationary vehicle.

They say they drive these hideous giant shoes because they 'sit up high for a good view'... doh.

I expect it has a reversing camera, she just didn't look at it.

I’m not saying I didn’t jump up and down for a minute or two…. might have even berated her a teensy little bit…

But fair play to her. She waited for me to calm down and then admitted full liability and made good by calling her insurer to do same. I was a bit nervous because she could have later claimed I’d crashed into her.

It made the claim very straightforward and I got one of the top body shops in the country to fit and blend new front body panels and new headlights.

In the end, it was lucky for both me and Purdey really as those bits damaged just happened to be the main of the last of the bits that had been a little bit ‘bodge repaired’ post the ‘wedding crasher’ incident (some know the story) from many years prior.

She openly admitted she just used her rear view mirror and didn’t see me at all. Likely the relative height difference of both cars.

These days I am super careful if in that car and pull up behind any SUV. Also I always use the camera when reversing the Rangie.
