Sachs 556384 front and Sachs 170857 rears with Eibach Pro kit springs...

That'll have your E39 sitting perfectly IMO wink

Then when you've done that...

A staggered set of 17" Style 32s will finish it off perfectly biggrin
Sounds like a plan for the suspension and springs, have a feeling will be keeping the 33's though as they have grown on me even more after the little budget refurb biggrin
Yup; they suit the car. But plenty of 17s out there that aren't silly money. Just need a full refurb etc

17s for summers; 16s for winters wink

Would agree but the potholes down here in Cornwall eat wheels and tyres, the meaty sidewall and general chunkyness of my P6000s has saved me many times this last year. Council don't seem to be able to cope with fixing them as there are so many.

That I do get! But I never had any issues with any of the 17s I ran on my E39s with them being 235/45/17s all round (straight 17x8 set of Style 66s) - plenty of sidewall still and decent suspension etc. That's why I've stuck with 235/45/18s on my F31 too and they take the roads superbly!

E39 touring on 17x with 235/45/17s all round:

Click the picture and click it again to see full size; gives you a good view of how decent the tyres were for sidewall etc

The potholes here in Lancashire where I am, semi-rural; are horrendous at best!

The nearest main road to us got 're-surfaced' the other day; lots of potholes filled... It was bin day yesterday and hot; most of the potholes have reappeared as the bin lorries and busses have simply pulled the tarmac back out...

Talk about useless!

I decided on this lovely weekend i should have a go at getting rid of white worm that was spreading on my alloys.
So far i have done the drivers side of the car, these took around 3 hrs per wheel to complete.

They are diamond cut and the laquer was starting to look a mess, so starting with 160 wet and dry to get rid of all the old laquer, then working up to 320, 600, 1000 & 1500 - and finally buffed with come cutting compound on a drill mop.

Once all shiny again, they got a dose of aerosol spray lacquer, which after 24hrs was buffer again with some cutting compound.

I am please with the results, I didn’t want a mirror finish, just an oem look without spending out £700 on getting them re cut.

They were spot on; really good tyres and a superb ride. Obviously suspension has a lot to do with it; it was on Sachs sport spec shocks and Eibach pro kit springs up front, Arnott SLS on the rear with the E39 M5 rear ARB upgrade (highly recommended)

This was my Jap import 540i on the sae 17x8 Style 66s but with Goodyear Vector Gen3 all season tyres; again, absolutely superb and would highly recommend those tyres; that's why I run them as my winters on my F31

Which brake calipers? Standard or blue Brembos?

ATE Ceramics for the blue Brembo calipers: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/13580115

ATE Ceramics for standard calipers: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/ate/7885783

Think that's right

Thanks for this. It has the pro pack so the blue 4 pot brembos, 370mm I think.

I think we have a set that have been boxed/labelled wrongly, will send back and order again.

Changed the pollen filter in my Z4 today….its fair to say that it’s not been done for a while judging by the crud that fell out of the old one and the date stamp being March 2007.

It’s fair to say that the garages who ticked the filter box were lazy, lying sods.

Both my previous F01 and F31 were like that pal; paperwork to show that the previous owners had been charged for it but it was never done! F01s was dated 2011 (the year it was made) and the F31 one was dated 2017; even though it had a BMW invoice for it being done in 2021... rolleyes

st isn’t it? It’s like being charged for plugs and the rear ones one V8’s being left.

Apparently the fuel filter on RS Meganes is a turd of a job so never gets done (a mate has one and his mate is a mechanic at a main dealer and have him one from his collection of unused ones).

Sheer laziness pal - that's why stuff like that IMO needs to be done by yourself; least that way you know it's done...

First thing I do with any 'new to me car' - oil & filter, plugs (if petrol) all filters and probably the fuel filter too etc... Peace of mind then...

And then if the new owner is anything like you & I Sam; a full brakes & suspension overhaul to finish it off biggrinhehe

Unfortunately now stuck with these wheels for a while and also the comical ride height as have a more pressing issue to sort out first - the dreaded smoking on start up...

Smoke on start up? Dark smoke (oil) or light smoke (coolant)

If it's dark; sounds like the CCV needs replacing:

Use this one and no other: https://www.c3bmw.co.uk/crankcase-engine-breather-...

Ideally; remove the inlet mani to do it as a) you'll have much better access and b) the inlet mani gaskets will need replacing anyways, so it's a good time to do it (and fix the vac lines that will be perished etc):

OEM are Elring - Inlet mani gaskets: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403964565956?fits=Car+M...

If it's light smoke; are you sure it's smoke and not just condensation; the back boxes on these are huge and they can retain a LOT of moisture/water. Fingers crossed it's not anything to do with coolant/HG; TBH the M54s rarely suffer from HGF

But if it is white smoke; get a sniffer test kit ASAP and double check

Lost the rear right wheel speed sensor on my E82 125i last week while going to visit my parents, and when limping it back home (and after an unsuccessful attempt to replace the dead sensor) the rear left has now gone. headache As a result I now have no speedo, ABS, traction control or flat tyre monitor, an airbag light, a seatbelt light and obviously no cruise control- so the car is pretty much un-driveable.

Pretty sure as a result it's the reluctor rings swelling and killing them both- the recommended cure is replacement driveshafts, but the only replacements available (OEM BMW are NLA, as are GKN OE replacements) say they're equivalent to the 125i driveshafts but are actually the thinner ones found on the 4-pot E8x's... While I reckon it'll probably be OK as according to RealOEM the thinner shaft is actually slightly heavier than the OEM 125i shaft (I'm assume as a result it's solid and the 125i shaft is hollow) and it was standard fitment on the 120d which has more torque than any N52... I'd rather not risk it.

Hoping that I'll be able to get away with new reluctor rings and sensors otherwise I'll have to bite the bullet and put some replacement driveshafts on and hope that the thinner replacements never cause any trouble...
