I got my current Rukka stuff ten years ago and its showing some wear and tear. It's also not as waterproof as I would want it to be as I found out last night...

As much as I love it and can't fault it over the last ten years, I paid £750 for the jacket, trousers and some gloves (non Rukka). Prices have increased a stupid amount since then and you are looking at £1,000+ for a jacket alone!

I'm looking for textiles rather than leathers. Waterproof. Thermal lining that can be removed as and when. I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount if they will last.

Any suggestions?

Klim are supposed to have a good reputation and it is a bit more reasonably priced - I’d start there.

Thanks

Yes Klim are meant to be a bit cheaper but Hideout, Rukka and the new BKS textile range are all £2k plus it seems for a jacket and trousers combo.

Heard good things about Dane as well - the Ikast Jacket/Lyngby Trousers are about £1100 (in total) for example.

I’ve got a Klim Carlsbad Jacket and I have to admit, I’m really impressed. No need for the trousers, but I have no reason to assume they’d be anything but good.

I would also take a look at kit from Rev’it. Seems to get really good reviews too smile

My IAM instructor wore his for years and said it was ok but he finally bit the bullet and bought Rukka and said it was significantly better - admittedly he rides in all weather for 8+ hrs

Following this as my father is after some new high end textile gear.

He was set on Rukka but it seems the majority of jackets are now short length. He prefers the older style 3/4 length jacket.

Rev'It! - but only the GoreTex stuff. Their own brand waterproof liner is hopeless (speaking from experience - I used to instructor wearing their gear then got a job in the Civil Service where I often used my motorcycle for work).

I did the Dragon Rally in Bering Balistik and it handled it without issue. Trousers were 100% dry as I'd reproofed them a few months prior. Jacket leaked slightly as I'd never proofed it. If there's one place to test kit it's the Dragon!

Bare in mind that it was raining constantly from 11am Saturday until I got home Sunday evening.

100% would buy Bering again. That suit was laminated and cost me about 500 all in in 2018.

Last set of textiles were Rev’It and, whilst they were an excellent fit (tall, slim), the quality of the zips and velcro was pretty sh*te.

Currently got Hideout. Fit is great on the bike, less so off it, have taken to popping my wallet and keys in a plastic bag if serious rain is promised. Will see how they fair long term.

Held are worth looking at too, their Goretex gear is excellent at and is usually reasonably priced relative to the competion.

My long term go-to is a BMW Atlantis suit, which is over 10 years old now and has kept me warm, dry and comfortable for that whole time - it doesn't claim to be waterproof, but has done a much better job of keeping me dry than many garments that claim to be waterproof.

I'd be tempted to look at the likes of BKS and Hideout. Their reputations are extremely important to them so you can expect an extremely high quality product that will also delver safety at a level the "off the peg" manufacturers can't even get close to. You'll pay a lot but you'll get the best.

Bit of a bump...

I've gone for Richa Atlantic GTX 2 trousers and jacket. Should get them in a week or so. I'm hoping for good things. I'm really impressed with the Richa gloves that I've got.

Hope it works for you. I had Richa GTX gloves years ago - they were waterproof but the quality of the stitching and velcro was poor and the fingertips wore through very quickly. I wasn't impressed tbh.

Are you wearing waterproof layers over your Rukka gear?

That's an option, instead of replacing it all.

I bought my Rukka gear second hand from eBay 5 years ago, and with another thin waterproof layer over the top (Richa Rain Warrior trousers and jacket) I feel like I'd need to be riding literally all day in some seriously heavy rain to start getting damp (Gloves is another conversation..)

Nah I didn't even think of that ro be honest. But I needed some new stuff anyway. The lining in the leg is coming apart. Plus the deal I got is worth it (trade prices effectively).
