I love my KTM 990SM and I'm keeping it for local rides

I bought an 1190 Adv for longer trips because it had 150bhp and cornering ABS - whilst it's a very effective bike, I don't love it

Too big, too ugly and no character

I'd like a big twin or triple as I like the instant punch for overtaking a line of cars

My back means it has to be fairly upright, I don't ride on motorways (as they're dull) and will be riding 8+ hr days

I've dismissed the S1000 XR - not keen on 4 cylinders, fairings nor BMW

I like the look of the Ducati Desert Sled but it's not fast enough and the Indian FTR1200 but I don't think it's suitable as a tourer

Budget circa £9k

I think you'd have been better off with a Superduke GT over the Adventure.

A Triumph Speed triple would probably do everything that you're after. Perhaps a BMW R1250R.

Loads of options really, it'll come down to what you like.

I think you've got the runt of the litter, not helped by the exhaust and DIY screen. But I doubt you'll find a better do it all bike

Multistrada, Tiger 1200/1050/900, Yamaha Tracer 9, or a Niken, Aprillia Caponord. All a bit different + upright with a bit of poke to them

I did think long and hard about the GT before buying the Adv but it's so ugly

I owned Speed Triple R but I found it mostly sat in the garage as I preferred riding the 990

What's wrong with a slip on - they're all the same IME ?

The screen is the 5th one I've tried ! It's the best so far - I've cut it down 3 times but it needs a little more off it

I had an FTR1200 and you're right tank range alone rules it out as a tourer

890 adv/901 Norden or SMT890 not the punch of the bigger engines but no slouch, upright and great in the corners

Just addressing the your "ugly" comment. I think it can be a very handsome bike, but perhaps its all in the eye of the beerholder.

I'd consider the Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer in the list.
