I still think these look good. My Father briefly had a 2.0 as a company car and I remember being impressed buy the bodykit/wheels/big exhaust. He thought it was crap.
Was the sort of thing I should probably have realised I needed to be 20 years older to appreciate... was quite cheap to buy, nothing went wrong, always started on the button, drove smoothly... bored me tremedously with its total lack of feel, handling and anything to make you enjoy driving it. There was nothing fundamentally wrong with it, and I got a couple of years out of it without spending on literally anything other than basic servicing... but never clicked with it as it was so forgettable to drive. Then again I was in my mid 20s at the time, these days I could quite happily drive something that was relatively brisk, smooth, reliable and near enough free to run other than the ordinary consumables.

Sadly, these older cars are not kind on insurance for first time drivers due to poor safety and security.LuS1fer said:

They love them over in Ireland, especially the D Turbos https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204750058802

I wonder if those who lusted after them as teenagers are now at an age where they're able to afford a little nostalgic project? I remember being insanely jealous when a cousin got a brand new 306 DTurbo S as his first car, I thought it was incredible and thought he was an idiot when he traded it in for an e36 328i coupe! Despite scrimping and saving for when I turned 17 a few years later, I couldn't afford one and ended up with a (significantly faster but definitely less cool) Rover 220 SDi! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204750058802

I love that. Good news for me, mine must be the earliest one left - 2 weeks earlier than the car on the front of the Peugeot accessory brochure. Mine has been in different storage for 7 years. Fresh battery on and it always fires first flick of the key (on old fuel too) without fault, hilariously dependable. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204750058802

Looks nice, one owner too. Wouldn't know about price but seems ok compared to some more mundane 'classics'. Dan Singh said:
They used to give me the 1.8 variant of these as hire cars whenever I had to do business travel in the 90s. I, of course, thrashed them mercilessly and was hugely impressed by the ride and handling. Coming off the M4 at J7 going to Maidenhead I was astonished at the speed I could maintain around the long 360 degree bend.
Same, except it was usually the DTurbos that I got. The ride/handling mix was spot on, and the engines were plenty grunty enough in the midrange, enabled a very high cross-country pace if you have had some place to be!
Made the equivalent Astra, Escort etc. feel very stodgy and slow.
I was so impressed that a few years later I bought a facelift HDI model. What a pile of crap that was in comparison.

If that was a civic EG it would be 3x the cost. These actually handle very nicely for a FWD car.

I think so and those who owned them when they were worth nothing. Going to 6th From in Somerset meant I knew a few farmers and their car of choice was the D Turbo. Very cheap to run when your diesel is a funny colour.BenS94 said:

You'll recognise it when you see it - I've posted it before! Sadly I found out Mrs Roe who owned it from being an ex-demo in February 1994 until I bought it in August 2014, died aged 93 a couple of weeks ago. Her daughter-in-law was delighted to hear the car was still around and very much cherished. I think part of the attachment is that Mrs Roe lived in the house my grandad was born and grew up in, before his family moved away during WW2. Her passing spurred me on to get it out of the storage unit and drive it around the private land it's on - performed flawlessly, still needs a clutch and some TLC, but that engine is still sweet and eager.
Oh yes, very handsome. I do love a DVLA issued 6-digiter too.Edited by BenS94 on Tuesday 23 April 09:30
