Ferrari 348

Considering chopping in the Griff for one. Any thoughts boys. Yes I know its disloyal blah blah blah, and even if I leave I'll return to the fold. I'm hankering after a new toy, roof must come off, don't want another Griff/Chimp. Want to leave it about a year before getting a Tuscan to let them iron a few bits out! I think i've found out most of the usual checks to do, just wondered if anyone has owned one/knows about them?? Went and drove a couple last weekend - obviously not as quick the Griff, great roadholding, great (but different) noise - scream not rumble. Alternatively any other thoughts for about £30,000 please no Boxsters. Considered a 1994 911 speedster. HELP!

I went a tried a 348GTB (one of the last produced before the 355 came out, a 1994 car) when I sold the 4.2 cerbie (and ended up getting the Esprit sport 350). I thought the Ferrari looked nice on the outside but apart from that awful. The interior was very very FIAT, the door handles all plasticky and flimsy, the silly flap over the radio, the awful little plastic switches. Can't deny they're a good looking car and that the carpets/seats give a luxurious feel to the car, or that the gearshift is click-click smooth. It's just that for the servicing costs (£3500 for a cambelt change that you MUST get done every two years) and insurance costs (hardly different to a 355) it was OTT for what you get. I'd say either try and stretch to a 355 (LHD possibly) or take a look at the V8 Esprit. Another thought is try a Noble...

Get a 911 (964) RS carrera if you're looking at older Porsches. WORD OF WARNING: I had a break from TVR when I was waiting for the Tuscan and although enjoyable it stung my wallet badly. People don't realise that even cars like the Cerbera 4.5 are much cheaper than other sportscars to actually run and these other sportscars have faults too, perfect they ain't. Here's a thought, buy Ben Pike's Cerbera 4.5 he's selling it quickly as he's buying a house - he might take 30k (bargain if he did)

Im new to this website, but have just bought a 348ts 1991. Having had a BMW 330ci I was a bit surprised by the quality of the interior etc, but I think all that really doesnt matter. Nor does it matter that a lot of cars are faster (at least in the figures - although probably not on the road). A good driver in a fiesta could win a race agaisnt a bad one in a ferrari. I race a highly tuned Exige which would whoop the ferrari anytime, but is essentially still only a lotus. You are buying a car that most boys have pictures of on their walls, and one that will make you smile every time you sit in it, even if it wont start! The one I have bought has had one owner from new, is in near perfect condition and only covered 20k miles. This is the sort of car to go for, and you'll love every minute of it.

Hi barrie, I did subsequently buy a 1994 GTS & love it although will probably sell it in the spring due to baby etc etc.

How are you enjoying yours?

I've owned a 03/1993 348TS for a year now and have not had one single regret about owning it. I've covered 9000 miles in it, serviced it every 2 months and the costs have been a little higher than the average car but it has been very worthwhile. Apart from the obvious appeal from the opposite sex - it looks, sounds and drives suberbly well bringing a smile to my face every time I get in it!! Roll on the summer!
