Alloy Wheels - Your opinion
Discussion
Hello everyone,
I currently have a BMW Z4 which is sitting on MV2 Style Alloys, like this....
They look nice but could do with a refurb and they are extremely heavy, and if any of you have driven a Z4 previously you will know it is a very stiff ride.
Locally there is a chap selling BMW Style 104 wheels which when fitted to a Z4 looks like this -
My thinking is this makes the car look more like a traditional sports car, the ride would be better and the un-sprung weight would be reduced, but I am after other opinions on what looks best
Many thanks

Personal opinion, so no offence intended!
Those smaller ones are absolutely tragic.
i would happily drive it with your current look, I could not drive it looking like the second pic.
No way.
The best wheels on that Model Z4 are the split rim 18's. Although I know they can be a pain to keep looking fresh.
Could your stiff ride problem be runflats? Get them replaced with some PS4S's and a can of sealant in case of puncture for the boot.

Leave the original wheels alone. Not only are they the original wheels they look better than the ones you are considering.I currently have a BMW Z4 which is sitting on MV2 Style Alloys, like this....

If it was me, I would go with the style 104's.
Will give a much better ride. And in my opinion actually look nicer.
My personal favourite BMW Wheels are style 32's, not sure how they would look on a Z4, but they are also very difficult to find.
Check here for some other options.

And here for someone who went from MV2's to Style 32's

Go for these but with some wheel spacers, say 20mm. Manufacturers always make their smaller wheels look weedy with the offsets so as to make the optional wheels more appealing when people spec their cars. Stupot123 said:

I don't really like either of the ones in the OP but the first ones are better. The ones above are definitely the best. Z4 on my list for a weekend blast car one day, and I'll definitely be finding those split rims! Those smaller ones are absolutely tragic.

I prefer the smaller wheels for a couple of reasons:
1) prefer the aesthetics of a slighter thicker walled tyre on a more modest sized wheel. Massive tyres with thin profile tyres remind me of these cartoon pics:
2) I have generally found a thicker walled tyre drives better and is less prone to both kerb and pot hole damage.

I prefer the pointy ones in the second pic, the ones you already have look a bit generic, as do the 5 spoke. I used to have a pair like that on my 99 civic!
The pointy ones will be comfier and will avoid that big gap around the discs which always looks daft imo.
In the final analysis, wheels are a very personal choice so choose the ones you like the most.
It would be worth keeping the original wheels in case you decide to sell the car.
