Ford Fiesta MK7 USB Port issues.

The usb port in my Fiesta (front of the centre consol) is not working properly.
It has power to it, it still charges my iPhone, so I know it's not totally failed, it was intermittent with Car Play and has got worse over time.
I bought a Wireless car play adaptor which was not great, but now, given that wired carplay does not work either, I think that this is the issue, rather than the head unit.
Anyone else experienced this? I have seen a how to on how to change the cable from the multi media unit under the glove box, but thought I would check on here first before I started disassembling the car.
