I have a 997.2 3.6 C2 with a X pipe delete and it sounds nice when revving but still very civil and when warm ticker still quite quiet. Any views on the Gundo, upsides and downsides ?

Seems 40mm pipe or 1.5" is the preferred size ?

Also any recommendations for who to do the mod.

I've a 997.1 and did the Gundo 11 years ago with a 1.5" pipe at a place in West London called "Style Dynamics" (I'd guess they no longer exist). Very pleased with it. My advice, do it.

No drone, not too loud but can be heard, sounds factory "Porsche".

Mind you, I think 997.2 is quite different sound wise given its another engine?

I’ve got a 997.1 C2 with a big bore X-pipe and 200 cell cats. The Gundo makes it sound awesome, better than PSE according to my specialist, but as mentioned above, it could be different for the .2’s. Mine was done by PCW exhausts in Bedford.

Thanks, looking at it seems the right choice of pipe is the 40mm, 1.5" than PCW uses. I wonder if there is anyone near Bath that might have had the mod done I could pop over and have a listen

I did a Gundo-style hack on my old 997.2 C2S and promptly sold it, the difference isn't a patch on what the 997.1 has with the same mod. I went for PSE instead, which (unplugged) gave me the noise I was after.

Seriously considering doing this to my 997.1 C4S, it’s just a bit quiet as it is

Honest I can't remember now for love nor money, as I had a local guy I used to work with do it for me for a few beer tokens. If you want to try it, then I'd say go with as big a pipe as you possibly can else you'll barely notice any difference IMHO.

It makes a huge difference.

I was at the beach yesterday and a father was explaining to his young 8 year old son how a 911 (pointing at mine) would be perfect for ferrying him and his brother around. The dad was selling the car and the young lad was just staring. Then I started it up - the young boys eyes and the gasp - priceless.

I think I need to just do it, I’ll have to find somewhere local that can do the modification for me

Seems it's well received on the 997.1, its the 997.2 that perhaps is less clear with the differences, I did hear a few 997.2 on you tube and it did sound potentially interesting

Thing is, unless you are considering an alternative option like a Fab or Acropovic exhaust then you might as well just go ahead because it's going to cost you £400 vs £1500, and if you're considering the £400 option and you know it's got to be better than your current setup then the £1500 option doesn't make sense. I don't think it really makes sense unless you're also looking at weight-saving. And thinking about it, if you got the Fister sports exhaust then you might as well just get the Gundo (well, it's actually Fister when people say Gundo, because the Gundo is the mod that goes into the backbox rather than jumps across from the inlet to the outlet pipes) mod. biggrin
