Now, I'm just trying to make this place a little more positive as it seems to me many only post when they are pissed off about something, so I thought of start a good driving thread where we can think about the positives we experience every day. So, today alone-

Courteous driver of a large pick up who flashed and let me out of my space this morning @07.00

Driver of a big eight wheeled crane that was fair flying along the dual carriageway at what seemed like 50mph but surely could have been but was so aware of his vehicle at roundabouts, leaving loads of space for others as he hugged the far away radius as much as possible. Very thoughtful.

Driver of a Volvo xc40 who I flashed out of a slip road and indicated to show I was moving over, who then flashed his lights in thanks after I passed him and briefly put on his emergency flashers when he passed me. This is something that many don't bother doing when I have let them out, although EVERYONE in my town thus far indicated their thanks with a hand wave or brief light flash.

Bus driver who sat patiently and put on his emergency lights after I let him out of bus stop. Brief wave out of window too.

....and that was all before 07.35.

Oh, one last mention, older Saab that absolutely flew along the dual carriageway yesterday afternoon, must have been doing 100mph or nearly, lights on, fully focused, left plenty of space before cutting back in, indicated out to pass further cars. Solid driving.

Happy Friday smile

Contrary to the stereotype, there is loads of considerate driving in London. In my neck of the woods it is always common that there is give and take on residential streets that are too narrow for 2 (modern) cars to pass each other, and waves given in acknowledgement. Visitors from Australia comment on how polite the driving is compared to the regional cities they're from!

While waiting to pull out of the petrol station this morning, a gentleman on a Kawasaki Ninja flashed to let me out. He then proceeded to pull 10ft stoppie / endo (I think that's what they are called). I gave a thumbs up and small applause, I got a wave back. It was unnecessary but very well executed!

I operate a system of what I call road karma, this means that wherever possible I let people out/in and generally try and interact with other drives as I would like to be interacted with.

my (forlorn) hope is that the recipients of such behaviour will pass it on.

Great idea for a thread.
Consideration for others is good for both of you The other day I met an HGV on a narrow lane near Aberdaron. He was brushing the hedge on both sides!
I reversed 100 yards into a gateway and he not only waved as he went past, he gave me a big grin. This sort of stuff just improves your day!

The man who let me out just before a set of traffic lights which I managed to get through, but he didn't as I watched in my rear view. He sacrificed 1 minute of his life for me.

Yes, we are now married. Honeymoon is tomorrow in Blackpool.

I cycled 16 miles cross-country to work today.

Literally every single driver who overtook me did so safely and leaving plenty of room.

Actually it is hilarious watching the antics of young fellas on motorbikes and cars when I'm walking with my teenage daughters, though they are generally hard to impress.

I go along with the previous posters view of road karma smile
There is plenty to enjoy when out either in the car or on the bike. On the last bike ride i had
- white van man letting me across at a junction
- bus slowing and giving me space on a narrow road

Just imagine if you smiled every time your saw someone make a lane mistake on a roundabout!
Or laughed when a large SUV used it's indicators!

Alternatively if you view anyone travelling slower than you as 'insane', anyone travelling faster than you as 'reckless and dangerous' and any other road users as 'militant' because they get in your way....... then you come on here and complain how stressful driving is !

I drove 10 miles down Glen Torridon yesterday at 11 a.m. (Not a time I usually travel at this time of year due to tourists).

Met about 30 cars, and every one moved into passing places correctly, in time and appropriately.

T'was a first!

I moved out to a far more rural area last Autumn, and compared to driving round Surrey/South London the courtesy and patience of most of the drivers I encounter has improved ten fold.

I find that if there is a point where someone should give way, they actually do. They also have a tendency to give an indication of a thank you as well. Makes for a far nice, more forgiving driving experience. Admittedly there's a lot less cars but by contrast, locally at least there's never really a 'rush hour' haha.

Apparently he stopped at the newsagent on the way home and bought a lucky dip lottery ticket. Turned out the bloke who bought a ticket a minute before won the jackpot.

I'd forgotten this one...I've now seen a very nice looking bog standard blue Pug 106 Rallye (or replica, I'm not enough of a beard, but it has correct wheels, decals etc, looks tiny, petite, almost has a frailty that belies its name) driven immaculately by a young lad, looks around 20, maybe few years either way. Sat behind him on dual the other day, attentive, used indicators, straightlined a few empty from every angle, well sighted roundabouts; now THAT will set off a few twitchers, and they let me through into my space a few days ago. Nice car, well driven, young generation.

Similarly sat behind a well driven Fiesta on a twisty Angus road yesterday afternoon. Driver rarely above 60mph but rarely touched brakes, clearly knew road very well, no sudden changes of mind, smooth through corners, got to Dundee and saw it was driven by a young girl with her friend in the passenger seat.

Such a great thread!! It makes a change. Love the positivity.

So let me contribute: narrow road that I occasionally use. Cars parked either side and only space for one car to go through. Blind corner in the middle of it to make matters worse.

I turned up at the corner and guy did the same on the other side at the same symmetrical point.

While this may well have resulted in conflict we actually both decided to reverse at the same time to let the other guy though resulting in bizarre but comical synchronised automotive ballet.

When we finally crossed, big smile and thumbs up from the young guy, who I will admit my bias would have associated with less consideration and patience.

He probably felt the same about me.

I agree about the positivity. But in the OP, that is normal driving around my way.

Mine too, but it's like in most workplaces and classrooms,, the only behaviour that gets picked up on is negative behaviour, I had just hoped others might join me in recognising and identifying the positive...and they have!! Have a wonderful day all. Peace and love, gbn x
