Lost GB passport in Le Mans France

Need some help just found passport missing and assuming we won't get it back.
We return Tuesday.
Been on government site and can see a long drawn out affair.
I an for turning up at the shuttle and trying to got a travel authorisation and sorting it at home.
Please only reply to this if you can give us guidance.

Surely you divert via the british embassy in paris and get an emergency passport to get you home?

Driver's licence has mostly the same information as your passport, with the added bonus of your home address..

I would give it a go, attitude towards French border control will most likely determine if you are allowed past.

some modes of transport will get you in without a passport - my wife's a teacher and had kids lose their passport on a school trip between getting on the plane and getting off it - took 30 mins or so but they got through passport control easily enough. Assuming the owner has some other forms of ID on him it might not be too bad.

You can enter the UK without a passport, the technical requirement is to be British, not to have a passport, so your driving licence is likely to be enough, but don't expect them to make it fun. Definitely make sure you've done this first https://www.gov.uk/report-a-lost-or-stolen-passpor...

Boarding at the other end is where any problem will be, and I don't know anything about how that might go.

I wouldn't worry overly. I have a rather forgetful colleague who is French but lives here in the UK. We both have to make frequent trips to our office in Paris, and I recently discovered that he has left his passport at home on not one, not two, but three separate occasions when travelling. Not only has he been able to go to France, but he's been able to return to the UK without his passport. By air. He credits this to being apologetic and to having a good scan of his passport available on his phone to show them.

Of course he was able to identify himself with his driving licence. On each occasion he was told that the authorities would make a note on his file, and he would not be able to travel on another occasion. Clearly this has not happened as he is a repeat offender!

If you turn up at the tunnel and explain that you have lost it then they will check you have a UK passport and get you to fill in a form to cancel it, shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes.

I lost mine in 2022. The Embassy in Paris were pretty good. The Home office help line was utterly useless.

A train into Montparnasse makes for an easy journey.
