So, got a bit of an on going issue with carwow.

I put my car up for sale with them last week and up loaded all the details. The valuation I was given was in line with my expectations. The car sold for approximately £600 over there valuation so therefore I was happy, but the price was not excessive that It was alarming.

The car was purchased by a main dealer for their stock. The agreement was that they paid me directly for difference in the finance and they would settle the finance with the Brand finance company directly, ( now wishing that I was going to settle the finance).

So I got a call this morning from the sales director of the Dealership saying that the car was not as advertised. He told mw the car was advertised as a rare 7 seat version and not as the std 5 seat version which my car is.

My details are correct so the issue is with Carwow who have got the details wrong. The V5 which both the dealer and Carwow have seen states it’s a 5 seater.

So the funds for the car have been blocked until carwow decide what to do on Monday.
I am of the view that it’s their mistake and they should compensate the dealer who is willing to take the car at a lower price inline with a 5 seat version.

Has anyone had any similar experiences with this issue.

I don’t want or need it back. New car has been collected today. My concern is that I end up been out of pocket on the sale due to no fault of my own

Did you get sent a proof of the advert or get asked to prove their text?

What do the carwow terms state?

No I didn’t get sent a copy of the advert or there txt.
Just trying to get hold of the T&C’s

I’d expect to receive the money.

I assume there were detailed photos showing only 5 seats, the number of seats on the v5.

The dealer had ample opportunity to see the car in photos and at the point of collection.

Carwow are a selling platform, and your contract is with the dealer, not with Carwow, unless I'm mistaken.

If Carwow have cocked up and provided incorrect details were they available to you to review/approve or not?

My guess is that all you'll get from Carwow is an apology, but you never know.

Presumably the price was for a 7 seater so it's higher than it should have been for your 5 seater. So should you not be happy with getting the lower, but correct 5 seater price?

He would not necessarily be happy as other dealers might have offered more for a 5 seater for all he knows.

Did the OP have the opportunity to check the details?
I guess Carwow auto-generate a lot of the blurb from the reg no or VIN?

Possibly the car left the factory with 7 seats and some database still says that?
Or did the OP buy it new?

How much cash is at stake here?
If it's a few hundred pounds, you could consider proposing splitting it three ways?
Seller, dealer, Carwow. Everybody gets pretty close to what they wanted and you all move on.

In the long run, is it a flaw in Carwow's process? Does anything similar happen often?
What research can be done to find out? Other than just asking Carwow and the dealer that is!

Just a thought but given it’s a main dealer, they would likely have access to a manufacturer lookup system. At the main dealers I’ve worked for in the past , spec checking the car is one of the first things you do when valuing a potential purchase.

The Car Wow way of sorting this will be to drag race the 5 vs the 7 seater

I would just accept the lower price the dealer is offering. If it had been advertised with the correct spec you wouldn’t have ever known about the extra £600. You won’t get it. If the whole deal is reversed and carwow relist it or you go somewhere else, you won’t get that £600. In short you’re never getting that £600!

I had a look at a used car on the car wow website and it contains the following disclaimer:

"Whilst Carwow uses reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy all information and details must be confirmed when enquiring. Carwow makes no representations, warranties or guarantees, whether express or implied, that this information is accurate, complete or up to date. Carwow will not accept liability for the information provided.".

You’re all missing a vital thing.

Dealer has said they won’t pay the full, they have nod said what they would offer rather then reverse the whole agreement

The car achieved £600 more than the Carwow estimate, dowsnt mean the dealer who now is the car is willing to pay the estimate for a 5 seater.

Really? Are you sure? The dealer and OP had a conversation whereby they confirmed they’d nevertheless like the car but nobody mentioned price?! Not saying you’re wrong, it’s just that’s the first thing I would have asked so I knew what sort of differential we were talking about.

OP hasn’t posted the gap or offer

Many posters are taking it as being £600, it could be more or less.

That's not going to happen, Carwow cover themselves against issues like this. Just accept a slightly lower price and move on.

Isn’t it on the owner to confirm the details are correct ?
