Looking at the 1.6 Ecoboost Engines, seem to be a dry belt newer turbo’d Sigma unit. What’s the reliability like with these? Heard a few cases of cracked heads etc, is this common? Thanks

Thought I’d replied to this a few days ago…anyway I had one of these engines in a Volvo S60. I put over 50,000 miles on it and it never gave me any concerns, it felt bullet-proof actually. Barely even needed to top up the oil between services.

I have the 150hp version in a Focus estate and have taken it from 79k miles to just over 112k and it's had nothing engine related aside from annual servicing. It had already had a timing belt change when I bought it. Only a few other age related niggles that have cost very little over the past 4.5 years

You never know how many stories of 'cracked heads' are down to over enthusiastic Fiesta ST owners turned up the boost.....

It’s a better unit than the 1.0 ecoboom

Talking of the dreaded 1.0, Lookers now quoting £1,800 to change the belt in oil!

£700-800 +VAT at a lot of garages.

I suspect a lot comes down to servicing.

WE charge £1295 for both belts, interestingly Ford have change the interval to 6 years on the 2.0 Ecoblue from 10.

On the 1.0 the ones that have been in worse conditoin have all been the ones not serviced reguarly.
