Hi All,

Looking for some inspiration! Hope you can give some ideas.

Am looking for a road based cycling event - can be one day or multi, but capped at around 5 days. Much as I would love to do LEJOG, can't commit the 2 weeks needed to do it (getting to and from as well as the event).

Based in Dubai, happy to travel, indeed would need to travel! Have done RideLondon, Cape Town & Jo'burg cycling tours, as well as regional events.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

ALawson

Have a look https://www.alpcycles.com/calendar.html used then twice to do Marmotte.

Run by Ade and Shelly, they have a variety of events to do and are top people.

The Loch Ness Etape is a great event, it was held a fortnight ago though so you would have to wait another year but the pre-register is available now. It's only a one day single event but you could spend a couple of extra days in the Highlands and cycle on some quiet beautiful roads on the west coast.

I've done a few of The Service Course hosted rides in Girona, Nice and Tuscany. They are very very good and brilliantly organised.

I've also done two of the Leblanq tours, great fun, bit more emphasis on the 'party' but still with good riding.

Both highly recommended.

Haute Route or Cent Cols if you want a challenge.

Le Blanq if you have more money than sense.

Raid Pyrenees is a good one, Atlantic coast to the Med, around 14000m of climbing in 6 days.

I don't think they are poor VFM, they are just a more premium product in terms of accommodation, food, support and guest riders.

Pay your money/take your choice.

How about the Tuscany Trail - think the ship has sailed for May 2024, but the route is still valid. - https://www.tuscanytrail.it/

Or cycling around some or all of Taiwan's Cycling route number 1? https://epicroadrides.com/cycling-blog/taiwan-cycl...

Or the Hebridean way, although I can imagine it would be a bit of a pain to get to from Dubai. I've done most of this (from Stornoway down to Uists then Barra) and it is spectacular. although I had great weather. The roads are surprisingly decent as well, although weather is a bit of a gamble. https://www.visitouterhebrides.co.uk/hebrideanway/...

Isle of Wight Randonnee. Sunday of the first May Bank Holiday (so missed this year unfortunately). 1 lap of the island with 3,000 other cyclists. 8 checkpoints on the way around to stamp your card, lots of nice food at each stop from local school, church, village groups etc and it's free to enter :-)

Also, Majorca 312. 312km all around the Island. Looks epic, would love to do it myself.

No longer all around the island, but a fantastic day. Brutal, but fantastic.

I did it last year. 312km is punchy, add in almost 5000m of climbing and it makes it a big day.

I’m moving back to the UK soon and have been looking at Audax UK.
The events range from 50km up to 1600km and everything in between.

Haute Route. 7 days. 840km, 21000m climbing.

Expensive, but living in a cycling bubble for a week in the French Alps is hard to beat You can just ride it for fun, or you can race it as it’s timed. Motorbike outriders create a rolling road block so you literally can fly through junctions, and properly push yourself.

I’ve so many great memories of it, and if I hadn’t hurt my back last year, I’d be signing up for it again.

They also do a 3 day event.

Another vote for this, though a group of 6 of us did it over 5 days. The 'challenge' is actually 100hrs or less. Great scenery and you watch it change as you cycle west to east (the route we did).

I really enjoy the Gran Fondo Stelvio, especially coming back down the pass post race.
