I have got nero burning rom version 5 and a 48x CDRW. When I want to burn a CD, taking info from the HDD, the maximum speed it will allow is 16x, but its capable of 48x. I tried removing the program and a fresh install, but its gone back to the 16x max burn speed.
Any ideas?
oh and the discs are capable of 48x aswell.
Cheers, alan

Resisting the temptation to suggest "driver" error , I found this on Nero's site:
I have a 40x recorder, but I am only able to write at a maximum speed of 32x, or sometimes only 16x write speeds. The 40x write speed is not even an option, and yet I know my recorder supports it. I have the latest Nero/Nero Express installed. Why can I n
If you do not place any media in the recorder till Nero asks you to, are you then able to select the Max write speed? But once you insert the CDR media, the write speed drops down? If yes, then this is caused by the recorder determining that the media does not support this write speed, and so forces a slower write speed.
Ahead works with the Recorder drive manufacturers very closely, and they requested this feature so they can insure good quality writes. If other programs still allow the Full write speed, it's because they override the Recorders wishes, and this can cause poor or defective writes.
To resolve this issue, you will need to have upgrade Recorder manufacturers firmware for support this media at high-speeds, or obtain another brand of CDR media that the recorder does support at high speeds.

There is another issue, whereby something in Windoze prevents >16x writes.
I can't remember what it is or how to put it right, but keep meaning to, as my 20x writer will only write quality 52x media at 16x.
Mind you, the difference between 16 & 20 explains why I haven't gotten off my arse to look it up. 16..48, now that would get me annoyed!

Run the nero disk speed tests and see if it lets you into the higher speeds. You might find your hardrive isn't up to it anyway
Do you have a RICOH based CDR drive with "justlink" and "justspeed"? Justspeed will adjust writing speed automatically. Can be turned of in the recorder properties screen if you have it.
