Hi, I just opened an email in my Hotmail Junk Mail folder entitled 'undeliverable mail' from 'Service'

It didn't have the original email in it, just saying 'Undelivered mail to bnvybvliw@microsoft.com' and was 144K. Do you reckon it was a virus?

If so where can I download a good, free virus package?

Thank, DD

(Only opened it as I was expecting a returned email - I don't usually make a habit of this sort of thing)

Chances are very high that it's a virus.
Try www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php for a freebie AV product.

Suprised you've lasted this long with no protection...

It's not always necessary - don't use AV myself and never had a problem

No, the chances are you haven't got a virus. Many email viri work by spoofing the sender address, so infected emails have seemingly been sent from your email address even though it has nothing to do with you. It makes it impossible to track down who actually had that virus. It also means the infected person doesn't get returned emails telling them they have a virus.

Bastard virus writers!

Just had the same E mail. My AVG virus program flagged it saying it was a worm virus and has cleaned and deleted it.
Free download on the AVG website.
Best just to delete E mail from unknown sources, although I must admit I opened this one aswell, had two more since, but learnt my lesson with the first.

This is definitely a virus - it's known as swen or as worm.automat.ahb, and it's only been detected by the AV providers for the past few days.

apparently, amongst other things, it disables "regedit" - so try that, if it still works you might be ok...

Can't believe idiots who open these attachments...

Ooh microsoft sent me a patch by email!

BUT

As there are a lot of new users out there I guess they wouldn't know better. It's all new and exciting for them!
