Yep, on Christmas Day, or Christmas Eve IIRC.....A good mate of mine back in the day, who I used to navigate for on stage rallies was on board one of them. BA did a draw from their staff payroll, and he was one of the ones selected, and so all four for that special flight was full of BA staff.
I remember him saying the highlight was just after those air-air formation photos had been taken, the pilots did a not-very-airliner-like fighter like break from formation as they all peeled off....
Sad sight of burial of F-111 in Australia but when watching video understandable as the panels were bonded together with asbestos.

Me410 A-3 Wr.Nr.10259, with RAF serial TF209. One of 6 x Me410's evaluated by the RAF, and after testing at the Enemy Aircraft Flight at RAF Collyweston, RAE at Farnborough and the AAEE at Boscombe Down it was operated by the Fighter Interception unit at RAF Wittering from autumn of 1944 until spring of 1946, which is when this photo was taken.Indeed. I read it had a rather higher rate of turn as a result.
I recently saw the video of flight zero for the first time - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAp4RtGKbHE really shows how lucky and quick thinking the pilot was - it looks as if he opened the throttle, got air under the wheels and then didn't touch the controls at all while he replaced his underwear.
Hate to think what the fighter mafia would make of the amount of ordinance they have been used to deliver.

The fighter mafia were all morons obsessed with dogfighting. Before he shuffled off Pierre Sprey loved being paid to talk utter st on Russia Today about things he knew nothing about.
Military top brass are always preparing to fight the last war - the 'fighter mafia' were rooted in their Vietnam experiences. By the mid-'70s things had moved on a lot, mainly thanks to BVR missiles which actually worked MartG said:

Which the F-16 couldn’t carry. Heaters and guns originally. In fact, the AIM-120 has capabilities limited by the requirement to be carried on the F-16.hidetheelephants said:
Sparrow worked fine enough by the standards of the time, ROE often did not allow its use BVR and using it that close meant primitive IR seeking missiles or guns were better.
Sometimes even at close range the AIM-7 was still a better option than AIM-9s of the Vietnam eraGassing Station | Boats, Planes & Trains | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
