I loved it in its time, particularly because I was an apprentice with Ford Motor Company and those Ford's were our dream cars. smile

I tried to watch it now and it just seemed ridiculous. I think it's the acting that just seems so wooden and laboured.
Oh well, each to their own! There are one or two dodgy performances but overall I'd say it still stands up to repeated viewing. There are a few episodes where not a lot happens and it's true that the fourth series is lacking in pace and grit but I tend to watch the earlier ones more anyway.

Episodes I tend to enoy the most are Ringer, Faces, Stoppo Driver, Poppy etc, generally the ones where a blagging takes place and lots of 70s motors are involved.

Looks like there are plans to make another movie, although unless it's set in the 70's, i don't see how it can work.

It's been on and off for a while now, Ray Winstone is supposed to playing Jack Regan but some sources say he's too busy. I'm with you Guffy, it'll only work if it's set in the 70s without any knowing or self consious crap about being done in an 'ironic' way. If it can't be done properly by someone who really knows and cares about the subject, it's best left well alone.

like the OP i watched this when in my teens. Great show. All the more memorable as they filmed alot of this around the areas of South London i lived in at the time ( putney, fulham etc), in fact, you can see a house i lived in during the titles..

Always watch the repeats when they are on ( providing the other half is not in the room!)

So you lived in Colet Gardens, Hammersmith then? Colet Gardens was where Euston Films HQ was, the opening titles used in the first three series were filmed here with the Consul (NHK 295M) chasing the S-Type Jag onto open waste ground opposite the Euston Films offices.... ;O)

I didnt know that either, thats very sad. I think his last TV appearance was in an episode of Bad Girls at a wedding in prison, I almost fell off my chair when he appeared!

The very last episode when regan leaves brought tears to my eyes, very moving.

RIP Frank Haskins.

One of my favourites is when there is a security gang robbery at a plant, which looks like the nestle plant in southall, with Brian Blessed, the fights over and then a Blue Western and a rake of Mk 1 s goes past! The producers were all train buffs, there were so many moody shots in the professionals and the sweeney with trians just passing !

Yes, RIP Frank ;O)

I think you've got two seperate episodes mixed up JR.... the one with Brian Blessed in is 'Ringer', the very first episode from 1975 where a blagging goes belly up and he gets shot by Ian Hendry, and the one with the Wizzo racing past at Southall is 'Faces' from the second series, I was watching this one last night.

Both brilliant episodes anyway!

I love it all!

"Faces" with ze German... bang on!

"Hearts and Minds"..... that was from the last series and had Morecombe & Wise in it, the one with the Scotsman coming down to Euston was another episode but I can't remember the title.

Brian Blessed in "Ringer".....yup, he shouts 'Cozzer' to Regan.... I'm surprised you've never heard that one before. Most people say 'rozzer' but my cousin who was a bit of a naughty boy in the 70s always called the Old Bill 'cozzers!', as did his associates ;o)

EDIT : just to add..... 35 years ago tonight "Ringer", the first episode was shown on ITV for the first time, 2nd January 1975......where did all that time go....?

I was watching an episode the other day which featured a young(er) "Nana Hill" of Harry Hill fame.

People like George Layton & Patrick mower as the actors with the worst Australian accents, Roy Kinnear, Warren Mitchell, Patrick Troughton, Morecambe & Wise, Bill Maynard, BRIAN BLESSED, Denholm Elliot, Diana Dors, Colin "Chariots of Fire" Welland and many more.
Love the capitalisation hehe

Cheers for the reminder, I'll have to watch that one again soon ;o)

Don't recall a Sweeney ep at Paddington but there was definitely one of The Profs filmed there.... the opening sequence of 'Rogue' in 1978, theres a Class 50 (50 010 MONARCH I think) seen arriving and again later on there's a scene with Cowley walking past 50 049 on platform 1.

ha you are worse than me, that sounds right! There was also a professionals episode where there in a yard and a plain blue dmu comes past, convinced it was the greenford loop area!

Oh how those times have gone, must be getting old as well.

Oh yes Jack, I'm afraid I've got it bad..... those Class 50s got under the skin a bit, and I found myself driving them a few years later!

Quite a few Profs scenes were filmed alongside the Great Western / Western Region mainline out of Paddington, especially around the Southall area.
