In recent years some friends and I have visited some of the locations used in the series and the two spin off films (plus a few of the boozers they used) and some of us used our '60s and '70s classic cars to make the day go with a swing. Most of the locations are in South and West London...

Colet Gardens, Hammersmith W6 where the opening titles were shot back in '74 - Latymer's used be be called the Red Cow, where the cast and crew would take a breather during the filming...
.

Golborne Road near Paddington station was the location of the junk shop used by the villains in the series two episode 'Faces'...

Opposite the entrance to Colet Gardens is Colet Court, this building was Euston Films' HQ in the '70s and some of the rooms inside were used as the squad offices in the series...

In the 1974 pilot episode 'Regan' the opening scenes were shot in and around the Old Justice pub in Bermondsey, we went there for a pint and a nosh up, hanging on the wall was this screen grab pic from the pilot...

I'll dig some more stuff later wink

Nice photos. I like these 'now and then' shots. There's something similar in the episode guide of this Professionals website. So much gone now.

That white Granada is actually an ex-Bristol area plod car, one of the last registered, hence the T plate.

I forget the actual name of it but this Mews nearby was also used in 'Faces' in 1975 where Dennis Waterman chases his snitch...

Also, on that particular meet veteran 'background artiste' Harry fielder came along for the day, as well as appearing in The Sweeney he was in The Saint, The Professionals, The Persuaders, On The Buses etc, you name it, he was in it. He was also Mike Pratt's stand in in 'Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) and often drove the white Vauxhall FD when close up shots weren't required...

Another Colet Gardens shot - the land on the left of the wall currently occupied by flats was the former waste ground where part of the title sequence was shot, it was also used in several episodes, notably the aforementioned 'Faces'...

Southall Gasworks was another regular haunt in the show, it was also used in The Professionals several times and even in one episode of Return Of The Saint...

Drove up that road past the old water tower and gasometer many a time back in the early 80's up to the old gasworks gates, and then did a U-turn to go back....was a ermmmm, nice quiet road back then with no real traffic whistle

Is that near Shepherds Bush?

I used to work in Hammersmith Road and have had the Thai lunch in Latymers quite a few times.

What was it with John Thaw and first episodes? In the first Morse episode, we see him in a trilby and leather jacket, never to be repeated.

I saw the Sweeney Consul at the NEC show last month. How daft is it to be starstruck by a car?

You’re not the only one…

The bio of the car before it was red-discovered and rebuilt was remarkable, including being sold as a used car after filming and later as a meals on wheels delivery car because it had a big boot!

What would you give to be allowed an hour back in the 70s watching this being filmed?

A few years ago, a mate and me spent a day in London doing the same thing, but for Minder. Went to where the credits were filmed (sitting on the pub balcony, and where Arfur and Tel are "holding up" the lamp post). Also a couple of Terry's flats, doors of the Winchester, and a tube station, one of the cafes they eat in (still there, looks pretty much the same), Arthur's car lot (now flats, but you could still see some of the buildings in the background), and so on.

It was a cracking day out, Grommet.

The water tower is still there, was converted into flats in the 80's, actually knew someone that lived in one of the flats back in about 88/89.

My old S2 XJ6 parked up in Colet Gardens in October 2015, waiting for the other lads to arrive...

One of the locations we visited in Putney, if memory serves it was used in the first episode 'Ringer'...

And back to Colet Gardens - you can see that some of the brick wall that lined the other side of the road in 1974 has been demolished to make way for access to the new flats, before it became waste ground in 1969 a large girl's school stood on the site...

In April 2015 we visited Sheepcote Lane, south of the river, this is where part of the well known car chase in 'Stoppo Driver' was filmed, with actor Billy Murray playing Regan's temporary driver Brian Cooney...

One of the lads owns the Grannie that replaced 'NHK 295M' in series three...

'NHK' in 'Stoppo Driver'...

Wow, didn't realise NWC was still around as well. That was a 3.0S, which were pretty rare even back in the day.
Manual box, flat RS style 3-spoke steering wheel, spot lights, Bilstein dampers etc. biggrin

I happened across the 2012 movie and what a pile of st. Winstone and Plan B are both excellent actors but completely miscast in this abomination. The TV series was groundbreaking stuff. I can’t recall a poor episode and the movies with Thaw and Waterman lived up to the same standard

For pepel of a certain age this and the Professionals were and remain a class above all telly!

Crap acting, in most cases, lots of shouting, posing, and great cars.

I love watching them for the locations as much as anything, the other stuff on the roads while filming,t eh buildings, it is very evocative
