I really don’t understand this sort of vehicle in the uk . USA and Australia I can see why but not on these roads / towns .
They make perfect sense in the countryside. The flash ones are owned by gym types who universally drive 3' off your arse.

I generally see them in the countryside or driven by people who work in trades. I think the gym stereotypes you refer to are generally drawn to other vehicles these days.
I think most people don't have the gym stereotype, they have a slightly different one which this thread definitely confirms. I have a few thoughts on this. I had the old Ranger Raptor for a while a couple of years ago and it was fun, but completely let down by its 2.0-litre diesel engine.
This new one looks a great upgrade in terms of interior tech especially but, while the engine is a very different approach and offers more power, I still think it’s not going to be any good. Yeah, it will be faster and sound better, but for the way it’ll get through fuel it’s not good enough. This same engine outside of Europe makes over 100bhp more and that’s what it needs.
Again offering the same 4-pot diesel seems kinda mad when the normal Ranger gets a new 6-cylinder one (and I suspect that’d be the best engine in the real world in this country).
I don’t think it’s bad value though. What other big, practical off-road sort of car could you get for the same money? A miserable base spec RR Velar or something.
I do like owning a pickup as they’re really useful, but next time I don’t think I’d bother with the Raptor and just get a Ranger Wildtrak or Platinum.

Agree with you as regards the model as and when we change ours over one at a time the 3.0litre diesel 6 cylinder is the way to go in Wildtrack spec…..This new one looks a great upgrade in terms of interior tech especially but, while the engine is a very different approach and offers more power, I still think it’s not going to be any good. These sorts of machines are great for getting things wet in the back, irritating your back with the awful suspension, and guzzling fuel.
Aside from that, they simply clutter up the roads.
If you need to haul a bullock out of a ditch, or tow serious weight, you could possibly justify owning one, otherwise they are merely a bauble for the poseur.
Especially in cities, which is where the vast majority of these machines end up.
Now, if you live in Iceland…….…….

Not really. This thing can only tow 2500kg. By contrast for example my shagged old base spec Touareg can easily tow 3500. The base version 4x4 Rangers can do 3500 but the 2wd and Raptor are pretty rubbish. A big SUV makes for a way better tow car for non commercial use than a midsize pickup. To those moaning about it being woefully detuned and 'just remap it to the 400hp Aussie spec', you can thank EU emission rules for us getting the underpowered engine.
Nobody has yet managed to crack the existing 2.0 bi-turbo's ECU, otherwise every Raptor owner would be remapping it, so there isn't much hope for the new version.

Articles about the Ranger - especially the Raptor - always seem to bring out the miserable tts, and stupid comments about owners.
Personally, I think it's great. Totally pointless for most people, but that's part of why it's great. If you can't see even a tiny bit of appeal in something like this, you probably need to hand in your PH membership card.

Throughly agree with you chap….you see the same ones saying the same stupid internet cliche rubbish wittering on about fuel consumption and build quality and the personal stuff…..so just to add petrol to the fire…..Personally, I think it's great. I built this at the end of my garden making full use of my Ranger for all the materials and so on ….so it could house this which does even less MPG….
