My W204 coupe has the panoramic roof (as I think all the coupes do) and recently it's been making a faint creaking noise, which has more recently been getting louder. I think I saw something in one of the buyer's guides before I bought one that this is not unheard of but I'm not finding a great deal about it online now (or maybe my Google skills fail me).

Has anyone else with this model had this and any idea what the fix is, or likely tax at a garage (independent Merc specialist in my case) to put it right?

Like the seals creaking ?
Give them a clean and Iube them. I use a generic silicone spray. Shuts them up for a bit.
Not sure what the source is exactly. I bought the car just over a year ago and the pano roof was sorted at a local specialist courtesy of the selling dealer as it was getting stuck while the roof was opening or closing. I didn't see the invoice so can't say for sure what they did but I was led to believe it was a fairly comprehensive strip down, clean, lubrication and reassembly of the mechanisms so I'd be surprised if it had dried out in the ten or so months since then?

To check if it’s the seals creaking, fully open the roof. If it stops creaking it’s your seals.
My can creak after a bit, drove me mad until I finally worked out what it was. If it’s your seals give them a good lube.
Good shout, thanks - will try that if/when it ever stops bloody raining here...

I lube seals when I clean the car, only takes a moment. Don't overdo it just a smear, may take a couple of goes.

What have you got to lose?
Nothing I suppose, what do you use to lube the seals with and which ones specifically?

Think you've hit the nail on the head PDP76, glorious sunshine on Saturday so had the sunroof open - no creaking. I'll try lubing up the seals this week - thanks.

Not out of the woods yet unfortunately. The original sort of clicky, creaking noise is now gone after applying silicone lube to the seals, but the newer, squeaky sort of creaking persists. It almost sounds like rubbing chunks of polystyrene packaging together if you know what I mean?

I will revisit this later this week and see if there's anywhere else I can get at with the silicone lube but I suspect it's going to need my local specialist to look at it.

I'm convinced the noise is now getting worse, and it's now definitely happening when the sunroof is open (either tilted or fully retracted) so I don't think it's the seals. Now looking for a bodyshop/sunroof specialist to see what they say.
