The drivers door mirror on my 93 Chimaera has been floppy for some time and today finally got it off to see why and well let us just say it's been repaired more than once it seems now it was flopping about on top of the tripod after much phaffing about have managed to get it solid by adapting a previous repair however the adjusting mechanism is in very poor shape and the mirror glass was glued in place with black body sealant and was a right bh to get off lucky managed it without breaking the glass but the adjusting motors seem to have seized and while trying to free them up by moving it one of the little white racks snapped. Yes the motors are seized so now am stuck with trying to find a replacement mechanism or a replacement mirror.

This comes hot on the heels of finding out that the passenger door window motor is also seized. Motor is getting full voltage but not even trying to move and having to replace the fuel pump as that also seized up ............... leaving them standing for a long time does not help at all!

So anyone have sensible suggestions on where to get the required bits? Bearing in mind that am located in SE Europe!

Window motor might free up if you can strip it down (like a big Scalextric motor)?

This should do for the fuel pump (you can't strip that down)

Mirrors are getting scarce and that means expensive now, hopefully someone will come to your rescue with some secondhand bits.

There are a few useful groups on FaceBook

Thanks for the reply though it seems my post confused you somewhat! The fuel pump is done and she is running fine again :-

Nice shiny red topped fuel pump in place.

Now this is the broken mechanism of the mirror:-

The bolt head is part of the previous repair although it was covered in plastic metal that I had to chisel off to get it apart to fix it more solidly as it was there that is was wobbling about it was then that it was discovered that the mechanism was more broken that I thought and had actually seized up. Now due to the scarcity of the mirrors have been considering alternatives but seriously lack workshop facilities here if we were still back in Lincolnshire with the machine shop could have made an adaptor but that was gone before I bought the Chimaera so useless thinking about it really.

This site can’t be reached
Check if there is a typo in racetechdirect.co.uk.

That is all I get.

Just messaged Fiberon on FB and it seems they still do the Mirror adaptors bit of a shock at the price though. Now have to look for some Corrado mirrors.

Racetech seems to be working for me.
£62 for a replacement toadstool doesn't sound too terrible these days...

Cheers for that sadly the glass mounting "plate"is broken on mine as the alloy cone that attaches to the tripod and the electric adjusting motors seem to be seized. Yes it's a right mess......................... Although I have now gotten the mirror works/mechanism to be solid on the tripod if a replacement motor could be found with it's little white rack it could be repaired but honestly it may be better to bite the bullet and stump up for the correct used mirror assembly.

Also been wondering if the Audi TT mirrors have the same fitting as the Corrado ones and Corrado mirrors are getting silly prices while the TT mirrors are a fraction of the price which offsets the £107 for the adaptors. Buying adaptors plus Corrado mirrors means buying a TVR mirror even at their inflated prices is cheaper.

I think it's the slow internet here that may be the issue with their site as it obviously works for you but will not connect from here.

Thanks to your post and posted link I was able to discover that the actuator motor bit is in fact a common part and actually used in lots of models and makes and although so far have not been able to find anywhere here than can order one it looks like we will have to purchase through ebay prices range from about £10 to about £20 depending in make and model claimed to fit. Will be buying a new glass as wellso spending about £30-£40 including delivery instead of £150-£300 is a win in my mind.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions.

Excellent thank you it might well be a good idea to get anew replacement for the "fixed up" one that I have ..................... hmmm maybe get two so that we have a spare just in case!

With that price difference it goes to show the greed that is out there.
